Burning Man hires Event Director
Those following the Jack Rabbit Speaks may have seen the post last summer, Burning Man had begun its search for the individual who would become the event director and assume the responsibilities and leadership of the Burning Man event. Rather than ramble on, go take a look at Maid Marian's blog post introducing our new event director, Charlie Dolman. Check it out!

Looks like he's got a great background to manage the rabbit hole - I hope he is a good fit...

Welcome Charlie! Sounds like you have the perfect background. You have some big shoes to fill but lots of willing hands to help.

I voted for you G-Dawg!graidawg wrote:well done (think he will lend me his green card when he gts it?)
But, no one asked for my vote, so... I don't think they counted it.

Re: Burning Man hires Event Director
He's a burner. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Might a non-burner be able to provide a more objective perspective to the actual management process? Just wondering, as burners tend to give the event cult status, which at times seems to conflict with objective business management principles. (And yes, Burning Man is a business.)

Re: Burning Man hires Event Director
I think that if he were a burner without outside experience that would be a risk. He's got pretty extensive experience outside the event, which I think is a very good thing.
Re: Burning Man hires Event Director
Right, while understanding tradition is important, outside experience and fresh ideas will help prevent stagnation. I don't want a Burning Man where all that remains are camps and artists that are "too big to fail."
