I was at an auction recently and used the Porta-Jon. It was like-new, spotless, clean....and boring as hell.

(for a week after) had to piss more than 4 times a day.
Keep the previous BM year's photos on the camera until about 2 months before the next event when I need to clear out space on the card.
Bring three headlights camping in case someone needs one.
Keep a pair of earplugs in my pocket anytime I'm staying somewhere beside my house.

...no longer smoke cigarettes.
...no longer smoke weed.
(True story. 5 weeks. Have given these up as a 20 years long daily habit since the first Monday of this year's event. They just seemed stupid and isolating.)
...crush aluminum cans with my bare hands.
...find V8 and Cup-O-Noodles an acceptable breakfast.
...take acroyoga classes.
...contemplate potential art projects when daydreaming.
...am willing to engage people more deeply without "having to get to know them first".

Thanks! I still have moments where I feel like I am losing my mind. But then I take some deep breaths and envision riding out to the deep playa and back.

Wow, Curt Shocker, that's amazing! How long have you been smoke-free?
I hear it takes long than one would expect to shake the craving, so hang in there.

Re: Because of Burning Man I Now...
The last cigarette was the night of the Man burn, and the last toke was the Monday prior. Since smoking both were daily events I'm going to split the difference and say it's been 5 weeks.
It's not so much a craving as a sensation that the fabric of my mind is unravelling. I know the focus would return if I smoked, but so would all kinds of other baggage that I'm trying to shed.
The funny thing is I went to Burning Man for the first time this year thinking that I would finally be able to indulge and smoke whenever I wanted. (I never smoked either around my kids.) The last thing I ever expected was an epiphany and motivation to have it end there. Weirder stuff goes on out there than art, fire, and funny clothes.

I celebrate the New Year twice . . . and the second time is really just more like a reminder.

Because of Burning Man I'm writing my first book. I needed an asskick to my creative juices and watching fire tornados attack a crowd of costumed anarchist was just what the doctor ordered.

... know how much it costs to stay in a small town for a month while you wait for a car engine to be rebuilt so you can get home.
Engine blew on the way there. In a borrowed car, made it to BRC around 20 minutes before the gates closed on Saturday. Had to leave the next day to return the car. But I made to the burning of the man under the moon.
Been back from the burn for three days now.

Thanks really cool...
Exact reason I'm making the journey, I hope Burning Man has much more to it than a festival in the desert, I have heard so many wonderful stories about the vibe and how it gets into your head. "Life Changer"

Hope you're still off the smokes
