Re: !!README!! Holiday Tickets Info
Daayum! $650/ea for the holiday tickets with some cheesy 3% going to some sort of ambiguous non-profit to spread "Burning Man culture". That'll be quite the cash infusion (3000 x $650 = $1,950,000).

Simon, you really cracked me up with that comment.
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

Bbadger - if it was me I'd have gone to $666 and thrown in a pair of devil horns, just to see what the crazy religious sites write about it.
aserendipity - if you mean for either ticket registration or the ticket team's support forum, yes you would need to register an account on those separate systems.

$666 would've been pretty funny! Though I bet it'd attract all kinds of negative attention from people who think this is some occult festival or something.

Man, that is a chunk of change isn't it?
I registered, but don't know if I'll bite the bullet.
I thought the non-transferable ticket rejection post was interesting. I guess I don't understand the gifting aspect of Burning Man. What's the difference between gifting the money for a ticket and gifting the actual ticket?

i think the main difference is that in order to gift a ticket, you already sat at your computer for hours hitting refresh in order to to score an opportunity to buy the ticket, thus the recipient gets a no hassel entry to the event. a second less important difference is that the recipient cannot go and buy something else with a physical ticket; you take that choice away, especially if you don't transfer the ticket into their name until the very last possible date

I understand all that, I just find it interesting that the culture of gifting tickets is so important as to negate the benefits of non-transferable. If you're gifting to a friend or loved one who will be going with you, then you know what they are going to use the money for. If gifting to a stranger, nothing is stopping them from turning around and selling it.
In any event, the higher and higher the prices go, the less gifting of tickets there will be. The org made a decision that the culture of gifting tickets is of greater value than assuring tickets will be bought by people who will use them and value them.
Or you could take the cynical view that the cost of enacting not-transferable tickets was not worth incurring since they will sell out any way.
I will be there next year somehow. I've already started my project. I just find it fun to debate logistics.

As someone that gifted a golden ticket and life changing experience to a wonderful burgin this last year, I understand it fully. Identity based tickets are a no for me.

You mean his name wasn't really Thunder Dong? That would explain why I haven't received the child support he promised.

Well, otherwise, the holiday tickets were going to be swamped. After last year, vast hordes of burners were going to buy their regular tickets that way. This represents a significant commitment of resources.
Would you prefer a cessation of the gifting program? That's what I was predicting.

Well, I would guess the bar has been raised. $650.00 presale? $500.00 top tier likely on the way.

That's about what I'm thinking. I saved $400 for it so far, and I thought that was liberal. Guess I'll keep saving.

Re: !!README!! Holiday Tickets Info
Wow, a whole $19.50 of each presale ticket will be going to the burning man project.
So it's a gamble again, since no one knows what the ticket prices will be or how much of a fuckup the ticket buying system will be. Since we KNOW the day of the sale there is going to be some kind of computer blowup; it's happened every year I've dove into buying on sale day.
Oh well, to be positive...at least they've announced something.
