Greetings from Ireland!

Hi everybody,
I'm Arron (25) from Ireland, just outside Dublin. Only 2 days ago have I known of burning man, I don't know how I found it but have been watching all the videos on youtube everyday. I think in a way that it found me and from hearing that it's really a life changing experience I am planning to go either this year or the following year. It's a little more tricky when you're planning to go from abroad but I'm willing to make the trip to ring the bell
I've read the survival guide and all the information is a godsend, I'm amazed at how great the community is and that's what is one of the key reasons making me want to go so much apart from my own personal journey. I've read Ed from Irelands post before I registered but it's great to see fellow Irish part of the community.

Of course, you don't want to be surprised by dehydration or 100 km-per-hour winds, so make sure to read the survival guide and come equipped for the environment.

Quick question regarding tickets. What is the average demand for tickets compared to actual tickets available?

The event will sell out, probably immediately.

Last minute tickets can often be had, but as an international travel, I wouldn't suggest you bank on it.

They're a lovely bunch here to be honest, just inquire yourself first through previous topic threads by searching through google search and if U can't find an answer, put up a post, or pm me. Ill see if I can be of use

Its a major commitment, but like yourself, I think the positives will outweigh the negatives. If you've the right attitude in life that will get you out onto the playa. Just be realistic about the effort involved and prepare, prepare, prepare!
If 2013 isn't your year, hopefully 2014 ill have one down and a wealth of info to share with you

The event sold out last year, but tickets were being sold in the final hours...dirt cheap. DON'T count on that though! Plan ahead buy early. A good friend once said, "Everyone who needs to be at Burning Man, will get a ticket."

Good luck with logistics! I can only imagine the amount of work it takes to plan Burning Man from abroad.

Well I'm not sure regards Nevada in general, they generally come down hard on international or domestic when engaging in illegal activities. Best avoid the risk....
Drink shouldn't be an issue. Ill chill in San Fran after. Certainly don't want to get implicated in anything, US legal system scares me.

I was not contrasting the rights of domestic and international travelers. I was saying that there are things in the Survival Guide that are fairly convoluted, and the law enforcement page always springs to mind as an example. Over the years, certain things from the Guide have sunk in, such as consent about searches, but it took me a while to remember all the stuff under "If You are Stopped for Questioning" (for example).

Definatly apple, seems to be called Magners outside of Ireland. I know in the U.K. there's a Bulmers but it's a different brand. Try it out, great especially in the summer on those hot days. Well 20 degrees celsius we consider a hot day over here lol, Ed will know what I mean.

Yeah regarding the whole being coming in abroad last thing I would like is to get involved with the law in any way. Too easy to put a spanner in the works but a good time will be had on the playa. The more I think about it I can feel the urge to go this year like it's pulling me

Our rights as Citizens of the US, apply as Citizens...
And I wouldn't be surprised if there is some Homeland Security Act, or similar document, phrasing that gives police the right to get away with what would otherwise be an illegal search and seizure.

It is an interesting question regarding rights of international travelers. Will have to do some research, could be just short of, "Here's your plane, go home" but I don't intend to be any way near as mad as that would be the case lol. I'm easy going and out to have a good time if I go and soak in the experience and take it home with me.

I'm reasonable certain that there are treaties that govern behavior. I wouldn't be surprised that, depending on the depth of illegality and the country of origin, um... boundaries are stretched.

be respectful of everyone you meet including and especially law enforcement

know how to avoid trouble ( applies to every country )

know the rules of the road when driving in the US ( some slight differences to Ireland like not being able to parallel park , turn right at red lights etc - http://www.attraction-tickets-direct.co ... -the-UK%29)

don't do anything really stupid especially at burning man like smoke joints or take drugs in public ( if that is your thing ) - i've witnessed some people getting arrested for openly doing this - you don't want to get arrested for such a thing in the US or you will have trouble getting back into the country in future

golden rule - don't be an asshole and you will have a great time

if you need any other tips travelling from Ireland - pm me

it's changed my life for the better - enjoy the ride

Some great advice man, will definatly keep all of the above in mind.
I don't plan on rocking any boats except the party boat. Great to have a wealth of tips here at hand. Also the driving would take some time to get used to, I drive as part of my job all over Ireland so I should do just fine once there's no sheep in Nevada lol :-p
I would have the utmost respect for the law enforcement while I was there because I know how easy things can go sour and mess the trip up, especially trying to get back home such as a missed flight because you were sharing a cell with Bubba!

i def advise you to get yourself a bike if you can .. the place is so huge and so much going on .. there are some green "collective" bikes but pain in the ass sometimes trying to locate one especially at night and you can't lock them - you can pick a new one up for $100 at walmart or maybe a second hand one at gerlach for 50 on the way in.

the first year i was there i just wandered about and if i saw something interesting i just rocked up and checked it out

the second year i did a bit more planning. there are some music guides and event guides that tell a little of what is going on at what times / days for the planned activities anyway.

if you have some time make sure to give yourself at least 3/4 days afterwards to chill out in the states before flying home - your body will appreciate that !
