Addicted to the Playa after 2009, hope to find cure in 2010
I had wanted to go to Burning Man for almost 5 years, then finally in 2009 the stars aligned. Funds, vehicle, gear, and friends all finally came together and we were able to make the 2009 burn.
Only problem... since then I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I spend hours a week, at work slacking off, at burningman.com. I had dreams about Burning Man tell christmas, then in January ticket sale dates were announced, and the dreaming started all over again. Its hard to believe that we aren't even half way there yet.
I'm a Denver native, and proud of it! I work as a drafter and designer for a low voltage electrical company (Data Transmission Systems, teledata, AV). I'm only 22 but I feel like I'm 30.
Luckily last year we traveled with experienced friends, so we were way over prepared (never a bad thing). I've done a lot of mountain and high plains camping, so I've had my experience 'surviving', but the black rock desert definitely has some screw balls I didn't anticipate.

Yea, the first year is a trip
It takes the whole time just to soak it in. The suceeding years brings planning, and you can hop out of the rig with somewhat of a bearing of what the crazy lights all around you are
Have a good time trying to make some gifts & getting all your jazz ready

When I was 30, I felt like I was 22. As I get older, I feel younger every day. I feel like 15 years old now. At this rate, I will be in a diaper soon, pissing myself.illy dilly wrote:I'm only 22 but I feel like I'm 30.
In answer to your question about a cure, time will help to fix this. Also, after several visits to BRC, you will have that familiar feeling and you will be very prepared and organized. The mystique will definately dull over time and you will be able to focus on other things. Sadly, this may take several years.
I remember as a kid going to Disney World for the first time and reading everything I could about the place. After a few visits, I found that I still enjoyed going, but had that "ho-hum, this place again" feeling about it.
Hang in there kid, what you have is very common and things will work themselves out

I hope the mystique will never disappear! that would be sad.Shambala wrote: The mystique will definately dull over time and you will be able to focus on other things. Sadly, this may take several years.
CLARKcon is correct, I didn't even really get it tell Wednesday pm/Thursday am. I understood the principles, but I didn't fully FEEL the vibe tell half way through. Its way too different from the rest of the year to just hop out of the truck and be ready to go. I don't think I could ever be fully acclimated to BRC on the very first day. And thats why ya godda get there on Monday so 'by Tuesday night your feeling right!'
