Ahhh I remember that world. In some ways I liked it so much. Judges laughed stupid court cases out of Court, Police cared about respect and didn't demand it, First place meant something, Cheating was a social taboo. Gas was cheep and smelled good. We played board games and held conversations. I was 13 when I first bought a tin of Black powder at the hardware store, The shop keeper winked at at me as he asked "That's for your Grandpa, Right?"illy dilly wrote:......

Most of the racers would quit after the first time they got knocked of their feet.
All the parents and younger kids watch, laugh, and cheer.
This would go one for 10 minutes or so. Then who ever got to the truck first, or maybe the first 3, would get some sort of prize.
There was always a few people that got pretty screwed up, chipped teeth, or fell cut them selves on something in the grass, twisted ankles, concussions from falling wrong. The best part is, that even though all sorts of folks got hurt, it went on every year from when I was really little tell I was about 14 or so.
yeah, never really thought I'd say "Those were the good old days"

Be careful what you wish for, some of those stupid court cases concerned minorities rights--women, gblt, racial, and no one would believe that a scoutmaster or priest would rape a child.knowmad wrote:Judges laughed stupid court cases out of Court,

Savannah, I am a child of the Depression of the 30's and I agree that the so called good old days left much to be desired. Every era has its difficulties.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
well of course all that negative crap was there and perhaps we have gotten better(?) but that wasn't my point. I wasn't saying those types of court cases were laughable, what I was implying was there was a lot more conman sense, and trying to sue your neighbor because his tree blocked your view wasn't even going to happen, Some Cops were and probably always will be dickheads but the majority of them were at least somewhat answerable to the public.
No bunny likes having their words twisted. Nor does every bunny gota go defend and restate them selves. I remember having fun in public being a little more free. That's still possible isn't it? Oh wait that was my whole point all together.

Merry Solstice indeed.

Pink, congrats on getting a ticket!!!
AntiM, ha, I did cookies all day yesterday too! But mine are all for Earth people. Two pounds of butter made into 500 cookies does not seem excessive to me.
Okay, coffee time...

TDIF and a Merry Solstice to you (((MDF))). We're supposed to have rain here all weekend through Monday. My 7 year old grand daughter will be here on Sunday to play in the clay with me, so that should be fun. Other older grand sons are in town and I expect I'll be seeing them and their girl friends here as well over the weekend. Nice when they are little and when they are grown. Otherwise, a quiet weekend planned. Dives back into the NEB for a few more zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs.
Hope you guys in the path of that midwest snow storm are all safe and warm.
Cheers

*pokes in for a moment*
Good morning! Things have been crazy busy (in a good way). Pandorra's off on holiday break and we were doing a bit of running around yesterday and ran into Eric at lunch yesterday, that was fun. Then a late night last night, but still managed to finish up my camp planning docs for 2013. Then up early today, my darling made eggs benedict for a nice posh breakfast. Today should be mostly fun and relaxation and whatnot, followed by a weekend of more of the same.
Big dinner sounds great, Yggy, as do all those cookies!

Yo, Magic Marty.....thanks. We got 2" on the ground yesterday, but it's already almost gone. I'm safe and warm. I see my folks on Christmas Day, and my little sister who I haven't seen in 5 years....that'll be great. I hope your weekend is fantastic and your time is filled with great memories.magicmarty wrote:TDIF and a Merry Solstice to you (((MDF))). We're supposed to have rain here all weekend through Monday. Well here is the end o the world report from out my way. It's raining (big surprise). The The Neighbours cow was bellering for hrs straight then Just keeled over and died. They were kinda freaked out until the husband pointed out the pragmatic thing to do. Hang it and drain it. And at twelve twenty two (one min after I posted 12/21/12 12:21 on my FB) the fire alarm battery died and went off. And my dog is staring at me from out side the window with Blood from ear to ear and a Cows snout in his mouth. (thanks Neighbour
)
I kinda knew the end of the world would be a wired bloody mess.
