aserendipity - by 'not visible' you mean completely visible in a number of spectrums from as far back as 1916? Sure, from 1844-1916 there was a bit of controversy since they had been able to observe its impact on Sirius A, but these days even amateur astronomers with backyard gear are able to observe it.

I'm also not sure what the visibility (or not) of a single star has to do with it being a galaxy - a whole bunch of stars whirling around a central point.

Unless it's a very elitist galaxy, won't let anyone in but itself, but then got lonely so it's hiding inside another, bigger galaxy while claiming it's still too cool to be part of it. Snob.
