Whatcha doing for Hallowe'en?

Post by sparkletarte » Sat Oct 09, 2004 12:03 pm

So?

I'm going to be a pirate, inspired by pirate day a few weeks ago. I'm looking for a real sword and will get a cap gun. It was suggested I get a starter gun but that might be pushing it. I'm making thigh high swashbulking boots from an old leather jacket from the thrift store. Mean & saucy pirate. Big all-night party here Friday/Sat (?) at a friend's bar/lounge/hostel combo establishment.

Our second annual All Soul's night on Saturday. I'll be bellydancing at it, covered with glow sticks. It should be fun although I'm nervous as I haven't been dancing that long.

And then on the actual 31st, a friend is having a smallish home party. That will be fun- lots of dj's will be there so lots of good tunes, and wacky party favours.

In the meantime we have a Galactavator party on the 16th to get us primed for dress up. October is fun!

Well, my friend sparkletarkle...I dunno what. There aren' t many options around here. Maybe I'll take it to the Kiwanis carving contest and scare some people.

Halloween

Post by Mister Jellyfish Mister » Sun Oct 10, 2004 7:23 am

I'm helping my daughters make their costumes. My 9 year old is making a female robot with an el wire mouth and cool false eyelashes. The 4 year old has invented a super hero named Bubblegum Girl who shoots bubblegum at her nemeses. We wrapped her bubblelicious utility belt with el wire and rimmed her cape with pink tail wire. When she clenches her fists against it and glowers through her pink mask, I know I am not supposed to laugh, but I can't help myself!

I'll park the center trailer of the International Time Vault mutant vehicle in front of the house and let the el wire clock spin to attract kids. We better stock up stuff to put in their bags.

I've thought of glow sticks, what alternative treats do you suggest?

Hmmm, glowsticks are good, used to love wax lips, vampire teeth, party poppers, glow in the dark ooze/slime that comes in plastic eggs, spider or skull rings.

It's too bad that Halloween has been stigmatized so badly in regards to homemade treats, we used to get homemade carmel popcorn balls from the one neighbor lady down the street, that is what I looked forward to all year long. YUM.

So I guess fried eggs and beer isn't appropriate.

As long as the beer isn't homemade, all the kids would remember who gave out the coolest treats. How about jello shots at the door?

YOU! What are YOU! doing for Hallowe-en? People! Work with me!

I found a cap gun! Am working on a sword. Plastic bad, metal good. I'm going to have an eyepatch with a 'V' in scroll in rhinestones on it. I picked up that suggestion at Thanksgiving dinner tonight.

Gah! I'm far! You could mail it...althought I'm not sure about customs. I found a couple on ebay (oops, product placement) but that might be an issue.
I have a lead on a sword from my tai chi teacher. I'm just concerned about losing it, as is prone to happen on festive nights.

I'm spending this Halloween in Puerto Vallarta. Looking forward to the several days' activities associated with "Dia de los Muertos". Hope to pick up some folk crafts and costume ideas.

Sorry Sparkley - uh at this time plans are for the Sencond Annual Sacramento/Elk Grove Boys Drag party - need to find a new wig, it would be unheard of to wear last years hair, the unofficial theme is women in TV - I am leaning towards Serena - (Samantha's evil cousin from bewitched) It should be pretty easy to find some groovy duds at the thrift store, but will the A line mini come in a size 14?

And shoes - fuck, they really don't make cute shoes for girls in a size 12. Last year was Cocktail Hour, and I looked great in a pink bob wig, black sequin dress and super fancy stockings.

That's been my complaint for years, Stuart. Although, up until last year, I was living in the midwest, where it usually snowed on halloweenie, so people tended to wear more clothes. Either that, or they'd wear their teeny tiny little costume, but with a big down coat over it, causing me to ask myself "what's the point?"

We have a rule

for halloween you are not allowed to dress in a way that makes you more 'sexy' than you normally are.

I was trying to gather a pack of friends to do unsexy versions of all the classic sexy costumes

road kill cat replaces sexy cat and so on.

So I crawl over from the Bar to say that on H-ween, I will probably be pulling my 3-year-old daughter around in a wagon. She wants to wear a Moby Dick costume and this morning she announced in no uncertain terms that she did not want her feet to stick out from the tail. My sister is making the outfit out of a huge roll of white foam. My daughter wants me to be Ahab and her mother to be Quuequeg.

Neveda means mountain in Spanish. It is the most heavily mountainous state in the lower 48, with over 300 named ranges. Most of them don't get snow, so what the hell is the use? NV also has man many cool eco-zones.

Doesn't New York have mountains too? Or are the Pocanos and Catskills in Pensylvannia?

Yeah, I guess it could get tiresome if everyone was being sexy whatever. I don't see a whole lot of that here- there's a wide range of costume types. Although for me, part of Hallowe'en is expressing a part of yourself that you don't normally, so if that's the time that you want to be a sexy boba fete (sp?), then so be it. Silken Tofu, I want to go to your party!

I thought I wouldn't have enough time to make my pirate costume, and I was going with purple people eater as I already have everything ready for that, but I started on the pirate stuff last night, and it's not going to take as much time as I thought. I'm excited- I'm going to be a rowdy pirate! And sexy, but that goes without saying...hee... I found a good looking cap gun- that wil be fun. Still working on the sword. The only problem is going to be choosing which party to go to. There are so many here this year!

I'm really surprised at the lack of Hallowe'en spirit among people on the eplaya. I figured that more of you would be keen for an opportunity to get dressed up and be kooky. And isn't like BRC- be the change you want to see?

Since stuart and others are tired of the sexy look, I'm thinking of going as a fat, frumpy fishwife{no insult intended to wives of fishes, alewives, vendors of piscene materials, or to those gifted with a largesse of adipose tissue (quite plush and cushy actually)} With minimal investment of time and cash, I ought to be the belle-not of the L. A. Halloween party scene. Except I'm not in L.A. Anybody know of any burner parties near South Lake Tahoe? I know there's the Freakers Ball but don't think that one's for me..... :?:

Okay, I'm going to be a dead pirate now! A friend lent me a real machete, but my boyfriend has vetoed me taking it out. Machete + fireball whisky = bad combo, he figures. Hmmmm. We'll see.

Who knows how to make it look like my throat is cut and how to make some fake blood?

I'm still in denial that you people are a bunch of Hallowe'en grinches. I don't get it- it's pretty much my favourite celebration!

Ohhh! I do! I do! ahhh, the benefits of working in theater...
to make yer throat look cut, slather it with elmer's glue...let it dry halfway, then slash across it and then let it dry fully. Use a little makeup to give it a flesh tone. For blood, mix corn syrup & red food color *THIS WILL STAIN*. For something that won't stain use blue laundry soap and red food color *THIS WILL TASTE LIKE SHIT IF IT GETS IN YER MOUTH* For something you can get near your mouth, see prior recipe.
Slather the 'blood' all over the 'cut' and viola!!

and i'm not so into Halloween this year cuz pounding the pavement with the kids (again...) when so many great parties are going on is starting to lose it's charm...

I'm going as Manic the Dancin' Crackbaby Candy Raver, I mean, the SEXY Dancin Crackbaby Candy Raver
