A new discovery: Modern Drunkard magazine. Excerpt:
http://www.drunkard.com/issues/57/57-bo ... -back.html
The Boys in the Back: Where You Sit in a Bar is Who You are.
This year Friday the 13th passed effortlessly into Valentine ’s Day in a seedy pub on the Lower East Side.
A quiet smoke-easy that puts a half cup of water in everything behind the bar except for the dirty taps that shoot out rust-flavored Coors Light labeled as a rare microbrew. The kind of bar that attracts everyone from 18 year olds standing by the big bay windows in front with fake IDs that they’re too eager to show to bartenders who never ask, to old men huddled in the back under flickering old televisions playing news, sports, and weather. They scream indiscriminately at the screens, offended by politics, offended by blind refs, offended by rain.
The kids stand tall, their fresh faces glowing with the youth and vigor of minds that know nothing about how the world works. They drink like they invented it, and they experiment heavily with different combinations of drinks, comparing notes and laughing at each other’s mistakes. Getting drunk enough to make an honest go at climbing over the bar and mixing their own drinks is still a faux pas to them and not the accomplishment that it should be. They’ve never honestly been called “Sir,” without it being immediately followed by, “we’re going to have to ask you to leave.”

that is a brilliant find savannah, poetry in prose. it makes me yearn for the bars of my youth where a fight was simply a way of finding new friends.

Morning All,
Just poking my head in for a quick cuppa...off to take my son to the airport. He's going to visit some pretty awesome people in Texas
I can't remember the reasoning for booking such an early flight

Hi Marty!!
gettin cold here.
I had this great "vision" last night, after taking photos of the Hofstove and all:
That we had a big old party up there, in the middle of winter. I still have to find a way to afford a sno cat, to haul everyone in there (or build one?), but, what fun, roaring fire and snow, and all trapped in that small hof, drinking schnaaps and whatever.
sigh........

Hey UD, that print was too small for these geriatric eyes. Got as far as "I had a Dream" and then obscurity.

well, I'm not much of a horse person..........and dang a good snowmobile seems to cost as much as a snow cat. Just finding something affordable. If I can sell me jeeps and Honda ct90's, it might get me close.Elorrum wrote:Horse and sleigh?ygmir wrote:Hi Marty!!

anytime you can make it out, MDF! well, unless there's lots of snow and I have no snow machine..........
be lovely to have a few parties there this summer.
I should get a lot done this summer, a big sticking point was being able to secure the place.
now that I have doors, windows and shutters. I can put in the granite floor.......which will then allow the stove, cabinets, paneling, and furniture.

I forgot: I learned something today! Though, I would guess it is something obvious, but, it was proven to me:
When wearing 3 shirts, because it's dang cold but you want to work on your welding project, they keep you quite warm, due to the layered insulating factor.
Unfortunately, this insulation makes it take much longer to feel the heat of the outer most shirt burning..........
