Ok, San Francisco is my all time favorite city. There is a restaurant there I absolutely love. It's on the corner of Geary and??? It's a green building (I think) and they've been there for years! You walk in, walk up to the line and order, you have a choice of turkey, Roast beef, ham, ribs et al,and the menu has a HUGE sandwich selection. I think the folks that run it are greek. And for the life of me I can't remember the name of the place....dang it anyway! Anybody know the place I'm talking about?

Damn, I've been awaken by the loud thunk of the power going out, and now I'm wide awake (hooray for battery powered devices and LTE connections).

Yeah, I know of Tommy's. They have a couple locations in the city these days. i'm not really a fan, on the couple occasions I've been the meat's been either dry or gristly and the sides were a little scary (I'm pretty sure mac and cheese shouldn't ever be brown, and it tasted like pepper was the main ingredient). It kind of reminded me of a carvery that was being run by people who had never been to a good carvery before. I'm guessing that it was just my luck at catching them on a couple bad days, because I can't imagine them lasting as long as they have (let alone expanding) if everybody had experiences like mine. Next time you're in the city check out Lefty O'Doul's, an irish carvery. Also on Geary, but near Union Square. MUCH better food, though it's also much noisier on account of being busier and also being a singalong/piano bar at night. Damn, now I'm jonesing to go to Lefty O'Doul's...

Ah well, time to go unplug the big stuff from the wall to protect it from the surge when the juice eventually comes back on...

speaking of eateries, though as a buffet goes, it's lacking, if you love lobster, Boomtown!!!
They are small, but freshly steamed, and all you can eat! I think I ate 8 of them last time there......hahahaahaa. But it's hard to beat some of the buffets in Reno.

I do love a good small "mom and pop" restaurant. (can you tell I'm on a diet?).
we haven't had a really good local one in some time now. Tourism and all, has driven so many places to be "fancy" and such, it's hard to find a drop dead good cheeseburger, like at "Squeeze in" in Sac.

Best french dip I've had (so far) is the Cow Tipper Dip at the Brickhouse down the street. The beef comes from the founder's family farm - the guy also catches all the alaskan sockeye salmon they serve, I'm guessing he's got a boat up north and makes regular trips. Now I'm jonesing to go there too, good thing I didn't go on any kind of New Year's diet or any of that nonsense.

No Darjeeling, sadly. I only have Earl Grey, Green, Oolong, Chai, some sort of White Tea with . . . something, I forget what . . . and a whole bunch of wildly fruity things that qualify (technically) as herbal infusions rather than teas, but screw 'em, they lack civilizing caffeine. (They're for sick days, so I can get zinc lozenges down without horror.) Most are organic because I drink tea 50% for health reasons, but probably none of them are SFTGFOP.

I love to augment the chai. I add extra cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper and maybe a few other spices and brew a whole pot @ a time, really strong.

I'm working on a homemade chai liqueur for the M&G this year.
