Anyone in Isla Vista, CA...
...want to meet up?
I live here now, same with my dear friend Liz who has also attended in 2011 and 2012! No, we're not serial killers.

Del Playa is like the antithesis of Black Rock Desert playa... yet there are so many wonderful similarities.

Nudging this over to the Regionals board. You may also care to hit up some of the neighboring California regionals. Check with the LA & San Luis Obispo peeps, they can hopefully get you in touch with the fairly active Santa Barbara burner community.

Thank you Trilobyte! Sorry for posting in the wrong subforum.
I was not intending to cast such a wide net however- I'm just looking for the people in my immediate neighborhood. With 23,000 people in a 2.2 square mile area, I KNOW there must be more than a couple of us here in Isla Vista... Besides, San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles are each a 90 minute drive from Santa Barbara County, making it something of a regional "dead zone" (though I'll certainly hit up the regional contacts with this same inquiry- good idea!).
Therefore, wouldn't Year-Round Connections be a more suitable place for such an inquiry? This isn't about regionals or collaborative creative effort just yet, it's about getting coffee and going to the beach and stuff.
I'm confused.
**Edit** Oh wait, I get it now. This is a subforum of Year-Round Connections.

Re: Anyone in Isla Vista, CA...
No worries.
And no, I'm not suggesting you'd have to head to either LA or SLO for stuff (unless they have an event going on that's worth the drive), I'm suggesting getting in touch so they can put you in touch with the hundreds of active burners within a 10-ish mile radius of your current location (Isla Vista, that is).

wow... I lived in I.V. and then Ellwood Beach for about twelve years. Wonder if Del Playa oceanside still is habitable. I spent a lot of time with friends in the bowling alley apartments out there. Cooked burgers in the snack bar at the base of the pier at Goleta Beach for a year.

Isla Vista Burnal Equinox Beach House Party - 3/2/2013

I am throwing a Burnal Equinox Party this Saturday March 2nd in Isla Vista!! The party is at the house of my close friend Liz who is also a burner!!
The DJ booth will be set up on the balcony overlooking the 30 meter sea cliffs. I will be spinning Jazz (Duke Ellington, Sun Ra, etc.) downtempo electronic music (Beats Antique, Bonobo, Flying Lotus, etc.), dub (King Tubby, Lee Scratch Perry, Augustus Pablo etc.), breaks/drum&bass (Breakage, Noisia etc.), ambient (Burial, Scuba, ect.) as well as REQUESTS. Basically, I'm just trying to keep the vibes positive as any respectable DJ would at such an event. I have great sound system with a 1000watt powered sub!!!
Here is a shot of the coastline from the balcony:
We are looking for an art installation to fit in an approx. 10x10 area and extend vertically upwards!!! You are responsible for your own art.
Do you have another idea of something cool to contribute? Let us know ASAP!
The balcony is very spacious and open for dancing as well as the house and backyard areas! The music will be clearly audible at the beach below us!
The party is open after 5:00 PM!! PM me for the address!!!
*Please note this party will most likely resemble a college house party more than a legitimate event, but LIZ and I WILL BE BRINGING THE SPIRIT.
See you at the Equinox!!

Safety Rules:
Leave No Trace
Watch out for the CLIFF. DO NOT lean against the fence in the backyard or you could fall 95 feet and die.
No Drugs (seriously, just bring some beer or come up to the DJ table and I will pour you shot if you are 21).
No Dogs or other pets.
No Fireworks, firecrackers, or incendiary devices.
No Laser pointers.
No Pyrotechnics - Fire Spinning OUTDOORS ONLY
No Knives.
No Guns.
No Underage drinking.
No Setting fire to anything unless it is a cigarette and you are outside.
No Guests spending the night.
No DUIs
No Means NO.
Use common sense. There are a lot of cops here.

yeah let's definitely get some Freebirds someday, perhaps during the summer.

ANYWAYS, we are less than 24hours away from 2013 Burnal Equinox Isla Vista. Here's what the sunset looks like from our mystery location:

When I went to UCSB I lived on El Greco. Couldn't afford Del Playa. Besides, no frats there.

Damn, I should check this thread out more often!
Anyone care to get an sb/goleta/iv group together? There is a pretty strong contingent of sb burners...
