If we were trying to conjure up Laughing Forest, what kind of spell would we cast?

I think we would need a chalk pentagram. And a circle of playa dust, for protection. But does the circle go inside the pentagram . . . or outside? Do we dangle pink crystals, or blue? And what magickal herbs smell most like Free Stuff?

Whatever we decide, I think timing would also be of the essence. Laughing Forest likes a wide audience. The board is a little slow right now. Therefore, if there is to be any visit, it is most likely to come later in the year, when she can address new ePlayans of all ages and levels of experience, as among the regulars there is almost a weird--if tight-fisted--affection for her.

No, we went to Decadence at the Convention Center, and the light rail that goes under the convention center was a complete shit show at 1:30am.
By the time we got to 9 mile, and exited the train there were 3 different groups of people having to help friends off the train and then walking to the elevators to get down off the platform. COMPLETE SHIT SHOW!!!!!!! And it was amazing!!!!!!

Worst whining thread ever. I'll attempt to rectify this.

Frankly, as someone who has worked in the live event industry for over 30 years, I understand what it takes and costs to stage something like BM and the price is quite fair, considering the duration of the event. No whining here.

This is my thinking on the matter, If spread out over 7 days, it works out to around $54 per day. That seems pretty fair when compared to the ticket prices of other events. I think Coachella is around $300 for a three day pass, and many people wouldn't bat an eye over paying $100 and up to attend a 3-hour pro football game or a 2-hour Stones concert. However...

My wife and I are looking at this through our joint finances. Including the fees, it's close to 800 bucks to get us through the gate. I don't think we can justify this expenditure in the current economy, especially since we can use the same camping gear we use at BM to explore some amazing places for significantly less money. So, unless our financial situation changes, this may be it for us for the foreseeable future. In the past, we were able to take advantage of early ticket sales and tiered pricing to pay closer to $200 each, so we're kind looking at this current pricing structure as double the cost of what we're accustomed to paying. I think we can safely assume that the price will continue to rise every year, and it will continue to price some people out.

So long, Burning Man. It was fun while it lasted.

Since when does Coachella or other similarly priced event offer 2-for-1 pricing? Burning Man has never been a poor person's adventure, and again the ticket prices actually decreased over last year for more than half of participants. Comparing against averages, this year's increase represents a rise of less than 20%. Sorry to hear that in these times that puts it out of your budget, but it doesn't seem like an unfair change. You still have options - you can each apply for low income tickets (a process which is open now), if successful that gives you a half price ticket; you could take the year off and vacation elsewhere (my gf and I did that a couple times); or you could just take the year off without going anywhere (ye olde staycation, something else my girlfriend and I have done). You'll pine for the playa a little, but otherwise you'll be fine. And if you choose staycation your finances will hopefully be in much better shape.

Trilobyte: I'd happily spend twice the Burning Man ticket cost (and travel an additional 4000+ miles round-trip) to avoid anymore of those "stay-cations". Those things are death for me. I always decide to turn them into "work-cations" for some perverse reason (likely involving money and a deep sense of guilt at "slacking").

Cool, we had such a great time on NYE with STS9. We got to meet the band, eat "with" them and then watched a great show. STS9 has just been announced to play at Wakarusa. I already have my tics for that show and it is gonna be sweet....cr****
