Here's what I am working on these days
Since Yggy has had nothing to share here for the past 10 days, take a look at what I am working on: an ART GRANT application, bwahahahahahaha, I am lowly admin on this for My Son The Art Student, but this image from his packet makes me smile:
Crew is: Puppy, Grai, Bobbin (DAB), Wadder, Patrick and Mike (Mrpatatomoto). Don't ask me who those guys are in that picture. Belgians, I think.

They might be Indonesian. Which would make the Netherlands more likely.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
I got started on the smoker and oven assembly:
found a safe, with two compartments for ovens, about the right size, pretty heavy steel, but, well, free and it'll last along time:

found another (black) safe, to use as a plenum/diverter for smoke, oriented and tack welded together, after modifying the bigger safe/oven:

smoke intake on bottom, diverter plate at top, diverted smoke exit bottom, rear :

diverter closed:

diverter box, with return box above:

diverter box, return channel, plate open, with bar handle exiting just below inspection/cleanout cover:

smoke channel with plate cover:

I'm hoping to get the smoke channel done, and exit box sealed and ready for the exit flu pipe in the next few days.
then, it's time to test!!

OMG Yggy
Some burnt shirt, thanks for saving yourself! And that oven & smoker set up makes the whole stove thing a really massive undertaking, wow...

I'd say it's approaching 1500 lbs. FJ. Just a guess, though, from lifting the pieces.

I'm betting it will be at least a ton before you're finished.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
so I got the exhaust port, and smoke channel/diverter assembly done.
Just need final welding
I did a little "steam punking" with the curve for the exhaust bend.
From there, it goes out through the wall.
Ovens are almost complete!
exhaust port (to wall pass through), and curved chamber, above smoke diverter and alternate channel assembly:

profile of exhaust and interior of diverter chamber:

uppper interior of diferter chamber, valve mostly closed, smoke return then up and out curved port:

exhaust closed in, fins for heat exchange, and "wierd look". interior of smoke diverter:

diverter sealed, curve made from 3x3 angle iron, to great fins and heat exchanger:

Re: Work in Progress 2013
well, I can add granite siding for mass.........to me, for a wood heating stove/oven combo, mass is good. makes it last longer (heavier steel), and mass holds heat. hahaa, and since I'm using all "found" materials, I have to use what I have or can scrounge.
So far, I've only bought the top plate and welding wire/gas/rod and electricity.

thanks Trilo.......yeah, I thought the fins might add a little "Jules Verne" flavor to the wood fired rocketship/tardis.
Indeed Simon....I'm at a loss though, to what I'm seeing.

a giant skeleton/bob marley /puppet with working fingers and giant arms and leather dreadlocks....
(it's for a local tribute show, and giant skull bob marley is going to rise from the dead)
now does it make sense?

Re: Work in Progress 2013
Sounds and looks like an awesome project, Simon. Watching that Wayne White docu you linked in another thread got me thinking about making head/arm-pieces for costumes and such.
Meanwhile, I'm almost finished with moving storage spaces.

This weekend my girlfriend will give me a hand moving the two mattresses (there's a space for them in the back), then I'll be able to organize the new joint a little better than you see in the picture. All the rugs/carpets and stuff currently occupying shelf space on the left will stack up in front of the mattresses in the back, giving us plenty of additional shelf space for stuff that's in our loft space now. We'll also have room to store all the pieces that we'll be building for this year's event, so hopefully our living space doesn't get too cramped in the runup to the playa.
