Thanks guys, I'm passing along the well-wishes. While she can bend it easily enough the end of her pinky is still freakishly swollen this morning. She's doing the ibuprofen thing and will continue to watch it carefully. Meanwhile, busy day ahead. Where's my mocha?

When Larry broke his hand (5th metacarpal), the symptom was swelling and some pain. Took a week for him to have it checked. His was lined up as it began to heal, so they didn't need to re-break the bone. Please, if she has insurance, go get an x-ray, so it does not begin to heal crookedly and cause problems down the road.trilobyte wrote:Thanks guys, I'm passing along the well-wishes. good point, AntiM:
I've broken my hand and foot, and didn't get either fixed, so, both have crooked bones. They work, but my career as a lingerie model was certainly compromised by the deformities.

Agreed . . . it would be good to make sure the bone is straight.
I caught a hardball without a mitt when I was eleven, and my right pinky swelled up to the size of my middle finger, but even the x-ray was subtle. Dr. W said "Well, it's not broken . . . " and I said "What's that?" and pointed at a portion of the x-ray and he put his glasses on and said "Well, I'll be damned. You have a chip fracture."
It was straight though, so I just got a splint. The finger was stiff for a while after the splint came off, but there was no lasting problem.
Good Morning, everybody!

So, for the meet 'n' greet--comparison on broken fingers?
I slammed mine in a truck door when I was uninsured.

Oww! I'll bet your finger wins already. You can't tell I ever broke my pinky, but now I'm dying to see your finger.
I did once have my hand slammed in a car door, but I was little and my bones were apparently made of rubber, so nothing was broken.

finally ruined my favorite welding shirt, I caught fire bad enough, I had to tear half off , because hitting the flames were not putting them out.
and yeah, I always wear a heavy cotton undershirt, to protect me, and this shirt, to protect the cotton one.

True story. My Dad "retired" at age 70. Two weeks later I went to see him - I thought he had been in a fight. Massive welding slag burns all over his fore=arms.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
hhaha wedding shirt..........no..........
Thanks for the concern.
And, MDF: I was wearing 2 shirts, so, the outer one caught fire, but it was a loose flannel shirt, easy to tear off.
my under one protected me from flame,so, it's just as I turned, I felt the heat on my cheek and smelled burning shirt. no injury from that
Yeah Roark, leathers...some day.
*pours whiskey and hot water*
Keeps life interesting, though!!

Ygmir: If you're looking for a cheap (or free, if you have the materials) alternative to the expense of getting leathers, get yourself a carpenters bib from the local lumberyard made from canvas. This protects the front side of you nicely. Then make yourself some "sleeves" from canvas duck to protect your arms.
I have leathers, but on hot days I still revert back to my old homebrew bib & sleeves. They work really well (especially for TIG and MIG). On a hot day, soak 'em in water. They'll keep you cool and resist ignition. The older and more abused they get, the better they feel.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Glad to hear it was just the shirt, Yggy! I had a good class tonight on the jointer, planer, and table router tools. They're fun tools that will come in handy when working on furniture projects. My favorite tool in the wood shop (the shopbot) was sitting idle tonight, I'm looking forward to putting it to work in the weeks and months ahead.

End of a long day though, I'm beat.
