I am told that you can make your own sound suppressors, but the rules are very particular. Surprize!!
Verify this to your own satisfaction before doing.
I haven't researched it myself yet.

You must get the tax stamp and any other rules taken care of before building.
You cannot use this provision to purchase, though the rules are similar.
If you build it, you must do all modifications yourself.
They are no longer specific to a weapon, but are calibre specific, regardless of compatibility.

The atf had modified and clarified some rules about lengths, seeming to contradict at times.

The underfolding kalashnikov can be shorter overall than the rules seem to say, due to the stock.
Minimum barrel length is unchanged.

It pays to very carefully read the rules.

Was, as in I used to own it. Not anymore. It was 100% Legal. By 1/4" overall length and 1/4" barrel length. I kept a copy of the laws AND a tape measure in the case with it, at all times.

True story: Last time I was pulled over by the local cop (singular, we have *one*, only!) she asked me if I was carrying. I told her I was. Her replay was precious: "Good. I always like to know who my back-up is".

I work with local PD daily in my job and they admit while driving down the road running license plates to troll for people to pull over. One of the things that comes up is whether or not somebody has a CPL, concealed pistol license. One of them mentioned to me how much he enjoys seeing how many have them as he feels the same as your local officer.

Of course there are the asshat cops who abhor the thought of "the commoners" having weapons with them. Or even more so, the civilians that own the "assault weapons" as they love to wail about. They generally don't like my answer

I may not go quietly into the night, but I sure as hell will be hiding in it if they try and grab em.

Latest acquisition. Rock River Arms AR-15, the Attache Kit. Breaks down and goes back together in 10 seconds. Post-Newtown purchase, the seller did not gouge and/or raise prices on this and mags.

I can't get them to run, mostly.
Curious as to the specifics.

Knowing how to do things is not the same as doing them.
The atf is fairly specific about those lines in most cases.

I know I have to study how to make rifles automatic, in order to avoid doing so.
Same thing applies to pyro, as there are small differences between pretty and explosive sometimes, legal and illegal.
You have to know how things work, to get results you want.

And different laws apply in different cases and locations.

Knowing how to do things is not a crime or a conspiracy to commit a crime.
I have books on suppressors, demolition, etc, etc, all legal.
As example, if I build a suppressor it is illegal.
If I buy a permit and build one, it is legal.

BATF has already required, that military Style Rifles be unable to convert to full auto. Waste of bullets and a nice gun, IMHO! And you may die in the process. Learn how to Bump fire.

We do crank fire, etc, but of course it's much slower.
I have pleanty of friends that own assault rifles.
I can't afford the ammo at those rates though, or the rifles. (typically $20,000)
One of these days I'll rent one to play with.

I still have no idea what was on the video, but many unusual weapons and modifications are legally manufactured even though the average person cannot legally manufacture them.
Special licensing still allows this for guns.
There is no similar analog for drugs, so they are not comparable in that respect.
Such licensing would allow me to build my rifles in select fire, as they were originally manufactured, as an example.

In single fire, an AK build is legal in the free world, but as to location, federally legal in california, but illegal under state law.
The .30 calibre rifles of WWII, much higher power, are quite welcome in california, naturally.

I think M16 and AR15 rifles have much more fundamental differences from one another, but it's been some time since I took any apart.
Kalashnikov and many others are identical above the receiver.
A common warning when building a new receiver for an AK is the holes for the autosear.
You can make a lot of mistakes when building one, but if you copy the original mounting holes exactly, and accidentally drill the holes for the autosear, you must destroy the receiver.
This is a common error.
It may not be logical, but the atf focuses on the receiver, defined at an early stage.
Having the original parts, including autosear but excluding the receiver, or buying and selling them, is perfectly legal.
Other countries may allow original receivers, but ban autosears.

That's just an example.
There is no direct comparison in drugs that I can think of, though we often warn people of stupid stuff to not do, such as assuming their cards will matter in nevada, etc.

I don't know if any of this is relevant to the video, but thought the difference in rules worth pointing out.
In my city, it is illegal to fire a handgun under most circumstances.
In the next county, you are required to fire rifles within 300 yards of your own property.
Other than safety, no restrictions apply.

.22 LR, or .22WMR. Ammo lasts forever, due to better seal of case. Plenty of power for all things, with good marksmanship, and, you can carry a years ammo in a pouch.
