Cool story, bro.

I believe it was a few years ago that they managed to do a quantum sync for instantaneous communication over distance. Done in the alps, and required line of sight for some reason. If I recall correctly, the distance was less than 100 miles, but it was instantaneous.
Others have managed this within a lab.
~ Ten years ago the prediction was that quantum instantaneous communication would available around 2030.
Thanks. There's one level of nerd/dork/geek where you're clapping your pinkies together about "The Doctor", and another when you are interested scientifically about the results of experiments such as this.

Naw. 2012-DA14 is a miss, and the miss distance keeps getting bigger. Presently it misses Earth by 34,600 km (about 4.4 Earth diameters) as of the Jan 6 data run. See the JPL Small Bodies page here: http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2012%20DA14&orb=1
The intersting part is there are several other travelers in this same time slot. These are:
2013 BS45 on Feb 12
3752 Camillo on Feb 12
2013 BV15 on Feb 13
1999 YK5 on Feb 15
2012 DA14 on Feb 15
2009 AV on Feb 25
None share any common orbital elements, but the sky definitely gets BUSY around Valentines Day!

Re: Take The Tardis.
Sorry.
JPL NASA are .gov so of course they would never give us the truth and cause wide-spread panic. In other words THE TRUTH is out there, it weighs 187,445 metric tons, is travelling at 44,000 miles per hour, has an impact energy in excess of all of the thermonuclear weapons ever built, and is being pooh-poohed by two washed-up hippies in La Canada, Ca whose entire budget last year was only $166,000. Oh: the computer used for these calculations was a recycled Pentium with the floating-point bug. When not used for serious research purposes, it hosts JPLs longest running game of "Asteroids"
(how did I do that time? Hehehe)

Re: Take The Tardis.
You know, unless an asteroid is not perfectly spherical, it's going to have an EXTREMELY eccentric orbit, so any predictions are VERY imprecise.
There, is that scary enough?
What about your geostationary communications satellites? Yeah, they are in a shooting gallery.

Ygmir, the vacuum doesn't matter. An irregular object, assuming it's rotating, will have a less predictable orbit.

Ygmir, the vacuum doesn't matter. An irregular object, assuming it's rotating, will have a less predictable orbit.
An irregular object, same as a spherical object, will spin around its center of mass in a vacuum. Trajectories are calculated based on this principle. Of course, once this thing hits the atmosphere, you now have a stone frisbee and all bets are off.

And yeah, wouldnt it be big fun to watch this plow through a La Grange point and play billiards with a few billion dollars of satellites?!?
