Have a great time to all who are at the thing on the train. In the meantime I came back from a meeting today to find my street blocked by cops and utility workers. Apparently in the high winds a banner some plane was dragging broke loose and happened to land on the high voltage line on my street. Fuckers! Been out a good five hours so far, who knows when it'll come back. Fortunately the gf will be home shortly, then we'll abscond to the pub. Later tonight, Eddie Izzard in a tiny club (we caught the first show in his 2 week run, this will be his last.

any amtraks? no i think they are just american, to me there is the burner pub on the 3rd thursday each month. Though i havent been there for about 2 years (i keep forgetting)

I'm prolly not the best person to ask on that, although i do talk to a few english burners i dont really participate in anything. One thing i did notice from going to the decompression in 2011 is that a lot of them seem far more interested in nowhere. i guess its kind of like going to BM 15 years ago or something, being as its still relatively small. Personally i get a spiritual vibe from what i have seen so its not high on my list of things to do. perhaps in 2014 when i have more money i will add it on top of Bm, rather than as its stands now instead of BM.

if i do find anything going on over here though i will post about it. in fact i am going to see if i can find anything with my limited internet skills

Keep trying, or organize something yourself. As I understand it there's an annual regional event and a few weekend campouts a year in the irish burner community, plus some folks are likely connected to the local party scene in their respective cities. When we were in Dublin in 2009 we missed the annual thing by a few weeks.

Had an awesome evening last night. Went out and volunteered at a local talent show. The event was awesome.

I did, however, get humbled by a parking spot...

I turned off a back alley into my friends back parking spot. The back alley had about 8 inches of super packed snow. Very solid. The parking spot was as follows: A layer of ice (on top of gravel), then some loose snow, covered by a wind/cold packed layer of snow, which was covered by about 10 inches of snow.

It looked like I was going to be pulling onto snow that was 5 or 6 inches deeper than the lane I was on (which is never a problem). It turned out to be about 14+ inches of snow (almost up to my knees), with a 8 inch ledge that I would have to back on to. I had a good shovel, and had scooped most of the snow from under my vehicle. Unfortunately, it seemed to dig down - no matter what I tried. I guess that ice was "helping".

I worked for about 45 minutes by myself, some awesome guy stopped and tried to help for about 20 minutes. In total, I only managed to move about 4 feet in that time. It took the tow truck about 45 minutes to show up. And only about 10 minutes till I was on solid ground again.

I have a Ford Escape (with all wheel drive and ok - all season tires). Had I known about the packed snow ledge, I would not have even tried. (Physics rules are to be obeyed in winter conditions ) I do believe in winter tires, but they have not been in my budget this winter.

If I had a 4 wheel drive vehicle, with winter tires, and the ability to lock the differential -- I might have been able to get out myself. The conditions were perfect for most vehicles to get stuck.

My initial plan (which always has worked) was to pull into her spot - backup & go forward to pack the snow - which would have easily allowed me to get outa there. FAIL

At least it was only 14F (-10C) and I was dressed for colder weather... So, I didn't freeze or anything.

I did get to meet a new employee of my favorite local towing company. I look upon the towing fee as a "stupid tax".

Oh my -- Thank you for this MOST generous offer, Canoe. Though it sounds to be an arduous job to do frame-by-frame.

Perhaps asking for your knowledge of how this would be done might be more appropriate... then I could take on the job myself (should, of course, the explaination be less timeconsuming than the actual procedure). My cluelessness reaches far enough to have to ask what SW is..... and what software might be necessary to getting it done at all. I AM willing to learn though!!!



In answer to the pixel question, his limitations are 150x150 or 40kb (whichever's smaller). Is this a possible tweek in your opinion?

Painful to read your story Rice. Sounds like something I might have done tho I'm a bit better shod than you are this year, with a full 4x4 and really good tires. (The used Jeep and new tires being what I got instead of a trip to burningman last year.)

I was relieved to hear of your weather conditions. Wondering if you got the Extreme Cold that we have had for the last week (as low as -40 with windchill). Any time exposed in that is brutal.... Today's -15 seems almost balmy in comparison.

I was also a bit surprised to hear you're running 4-seasons. Knowing that your weather conditions can run nastier even than ours in the winter, I'm kind of surprised that your province hadn't yet experienced the legislation we did 2 years ago outlawing anything but REAL snowtires for the winter months.

I sold some -50% tread winter tires a month ago on Kijiji just before Christmas -- took less than an hour for both ads to be settled and pulled. Several people called after the sales -- desperate for truck tires at a reasonable rate. Damned things are Expensive!!!
