Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
They were going to treat me for chronic fatigue. Turns out is was simply the preservative in diet sodas (sodium benzoate); I figured it out on my own. I am now an enthusiastic label-reader.
I'm getting extra D from my calcium pills, and my very good multi-vitamin. I still am fatigued, but it is either permenopause or post-surgical. Joy joy.

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I've been slowly losing weight since I got back from the playa, but I need to go to the gym so I won't lose muscle mass. Looking into water Zumba.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
This weekend I finally got my butt back into the gym for the first time post-playa. I've been running and going to dance class, but I really need to be at the gym more often than either of those other options, 'cause there's a broad spectrum of neat equipment and I won't hurt my foot there, as I will if I overdo it with the running.
At the gym I did a good session on the recumbent bike, and then I checked the upstairs area I don't visit often enough and found a deltoid machine (shoulders!) which I hadn't realized was there. Wonderful! So I did chest press, deltoids, lat machine (pull downs) and that little cage where you stand in it, brace your forearms on some padding, hold onto the . . . handlebars? . . . and then use your abs to lift your legs. My abs were sore Sunday AND Monday.
But it was cool; I'll try it again.
I do the lat machine because I'm hoping it will allow me to keep some definition in my back now that pushups are difficult (because of the wonky foot) but I"m not sure if the lat machine is doing anything for me yet. Lats are lower than the muscles over the scapulas, which is where I would like to have/keep a little bit of definition.

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I scored recumbent machine for $15 off Craig's list..
The guy weighed 440 when he got the machine at a state sales. When he sold it to me he is at 210.. The machine is from a hospital rehab.
It sits in front of the computer, So I peddle as I type/watch Netflex movies bout two hours a day. Black Rock City here I come.. Getting in shape to power a kinetic art sculpture.

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
That is such a great idea, unjonharley! And for $15!
I wish I had the space in my apartment for a recumbent bike. I suppose I'm lucky my gym has televisions, but it still requires effort to get there after work, and then home. If I had a machine at home, I could really increase my frequency.

I took up a new challenge and joined hola hoop classes.
I learnt few things from the classes... like how it really doesn't help when you drop the hoop on your face.

Rousseau wrote:Since the savage man’s body is the only instrument he knows, he employs it for a variety of purposes that, for lack of practice, ours are incapable of serving. And our industry deprives us of the force and agility that necessarily obliges him to acquire. If he had had an axe, would his wrists break such strong branches? If he had had a sling, would he throw a stone with so much force? If he had had a horse, would he run so fast? Give a civilized man time to gather all his machines around him, and undoubtedly he will easily overcome a savage man. But if you want to see an even more unequal fight, pit them against each other naked and disarmed, and you will soon realize the advantage of constantly having all of one’s forces at one’s disposal, of always being ready for any event, and of always carrying one’s entire self, as it were, with one.

Getting the Body You've Always Wanted
1. Wait until at least April, when the ground softens.
2. Dress warmly (think layers), bring a shovel and a lantern on a stick.
3. Listen. Is someone coming?
4. Cover your lantern with a blanket, wait.
5. Continue. If you're not used to hard physical labor, wear weight-lifting gloves to avoid excess chafing.
6. You may need a wheelbarrow. You probably should have brought a wheelbarrow.
7. Come back with a wheelbarrow.
8. Try to have the body you've always wanted back to your house by dawn.
9. Get online, start shopping for outfits!
10. Your friends may treat you differently now, with your new body, but they are probably just jealous.

Okay, so when I walk I open and close my hands repeatedly. Sometimes it gets a little crampy. This can be a problem, because a tight grip is essential.
Would one of those spring things help?
I await your wisdom. And after reading Savannah's post, I'm canceling all engagements this evening...

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I have hand gripers of different resistance.. They help these old hands.. Also I use Antie M's cure for inflammation, ginger powder.. She take it in capsule. I take a1/4 tsp mixed in coffee, juice and foods. By the end of the day I've taken 1tsp. Been at it for two months, works for me.. have a bad habit of making a fist and sleeping on the fist.. If I have worked hard the day before the hands cramp up..theCryptofishist wrote:Okay, so when I walk I open and close my hands repeatedly. Sometimes it gets a little crampy. Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I got cancer back when i was 50 , 1 went from 175 to 125 in about 9 months ( from surgery and radiation and pain meds ) I recovered but am slow on gaining the weight back. This vid Im at 140 , im about 150 now , been drinking more water and eating better.
Had throat cancer , so they cut my face open and took it out and put a piece of my wrist skin with a vien attached. Then took a piece of my leg skin and covered the hole in my wrist.
Doc says Im his fastest recovery to date.
Been working on my legs and butt more , got a loin cloth and legging to wear

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I've been struggling to get to the gym in these freezing temps. Most of the time I go out and immediately go into a coughing fit. I had the bad cold for three weeks. Now we have a valley inversion, trapping the pollutants in the valley, the air is even unfit for healthy lungs, much less asthmatic ones. Ugh. Riding the bus is a fair weather venture. And I notice "my" bus bench on the way home is gone. Bastards.

I haven't gained lot of the weight I lost last year but it was starting to creep up while I wasn't looking. I'm back at the gym, I use MyFitnessPal.com, which is fun and helpful for me, and I weigh myself week at a time. Tomorrow is the first big weigh-in!

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Yeah, I gain about 10+ pounds during November and December. My beer & whatever-is-in-the-flask intake increases significantly during that period, as I perform music and more on weekends at a local holiday fair thing and the groups I work and play with really like their liquids. So much so that January becomes Sober January for many of us, and I usually drop the "holiday heavy" by February as long I visit the gym twice a week. But it's getting harder as I get older...Elliot wrote:![]()

Some motivation:

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Have managed my fittest (adult) Winter in a long time . . . averaging 3 workouts a week, occasionally 4 (which would be ideal). I continue to keep the running to only once 1 a week (or less) in favor of other kinds of cardio (stationary bike, dance class) but my left foot seems to be slowly healing. I know I can't afford to be reckless though.
Boooooo. I would much prefer to be reckless.
