Costuming Buttons....

Post by mgb327 » Wed Dec 19, 2012 6:04 am

If someone out there needs some "different" buttons for costuming, I have some. Most are NOS uniform buttons, made in England. I have gold colored and silver colored. I have one of the largest collections in the States of English uniform buttons, about 302 varieties and maybe 150-160,000 in all. I have "buttoned" marching bands, re-enactors, orchestras around the globe. Most are metal, gold gilt or gold anodized, some silver anodized, in sizes around 15mm, 17mm, 22mm, 26mm, etc. Some types I have a lot of, some less. If you have a costuming idea that needs some nice buttons, PM me and let's see what we can do.......

So percolate up something, I have a LOT of beautiful buttons, base some vest or something around lines of shiny gold buttons. I think they would look great in the bright/clear sunlight of the Playa, and even at night, reflecting the colors. I acquired this collection of buttons about 7 years ago from a prominenet Londoner, he moved to the States with his collection, got a divorce and lost everything. He offed it to me, and I grabbed it. I have somewhere near 156,000 in a long row of file cabinets in my basement. Over the years, I have sold over 45,000. Time to "give" some away.

I have some large emu buttons, and some smaller. The large are about 24mm, the small might be around 17mm.

I had an emu. Elizabeth. Oh, nice buttons. Thank you for gifting. You might want to put this in the resource listings. Free things are scant.

Fun-looking buttons! I like digging through the racks and drawers of buttons at our local fabric warehouse joint, there always seems to be fun little treasures.

Thank you for the beautiful buttons mgb327!

I especially like the golden ones with the winged griffins :) I still can't decide which I'll use for my vest and what not...

I think I'll bring them all to the AMTRAK party (with needle and thread) and try to sew them on, after asking everyone's favorite opinion.
I'll happily share the ones I don't use with with everyone.

Ooooh shiny....;)

Ha!!! I saw NO buttons in Reno, my dear.

I may have to take a drive south to fondle some buttons. It's not all that far, for me... 8) 8) 8)

There is something about a gathering of burners that makes road trips feel easy and necessarily frequent. don't you think?

I was just showing a friend and his wife the collection last night. To me, 150,000 nice buttons is a "normal" thing. These people were dumbfounded. I see no issue to having 150,000 buttons. I am an antique dealer, have been for over 25 years. Collections like this are normal for me. You should see the other stuff I have....I am not a hoarder, I willingly sell stuff. BTW, said "friends" are actually thinking of purchasing this entire button collection and going into the button business. I will miss them...the buttons, not my friends. MDF, you better hurry if you want to  fondle a bunch of buttons.

I love the buttons you sent to me. I fondle them daily. Sewing season begins soon. One pattern is a simple open coat and vest, while the other is a fully lined tailored uniform jacket .... guess which one I tackle first?

I still don't think I found every buttonhole, I keep losing count.

This offer would also go well in the 2013 Share Resources forum. Let me know.
