Re: Anti M's Home for Wayward Art 2013
Just returned from Puerto Vallarta, very inspired by the terrific folk art. Huichol art specifically, although I know much of what I saw was not "traditional". I have plenty of yarn and beads to express my images, and am excited to try these mediums. The prayer arrows as art, oh yes, I love the influence and the concept. Very Cargo.

Art is begun. Doing some reclamation of an old silk dress, also collage work using dad's high school copy of Walden's Pond. I had hoped to save it, but the shape it is in makes it worthless as a book. Using up my small wooden plaques and some old temporary tattoos, and tea tins.

Found some interesting stuff at the wacky antique/junk store today. Include a girl with a That Girl hair style.

I LOVE this idea, and will be bringing art to gift. Wouldn't it be so cool if we could bring supplies, and MAKE wayward art too? Are there crafting events or camps at Burning Man? (this will be my first)

There are crafting camps and events.
To Dye For--led by our own Tamarakay. Part of the Barbie Death Village. Mark your calendar for "Tuesday".
And others, I'm sure, placed and unplaced.

Looking forward to your wayward art!dyanna wrote:I LOVE this idea, and will be bringing art to gift. Wouldn't it be so cool if we could bring supplies, and MAKE wayward art too? Are there crafting events or camps at Burning Man? (this will be my first)
However, I am not set up with an area to make art. I don't want to because I don't want to be tied to a camp schedule which includes clean up. I do not trust folks to keep a DIY art station MOOP free. My tiny table in front of my gallery is tiny on purpose, just big enough to hold the adoption forms/pens and a place to fill them out. Still, I end up with too many cups, and assorted random crap. I hate cleaning up after other people, so having events doesn't work for me.
But Fishy is right, there are opportunities, you just have to keep an eye out beforehand and then look through the guide when you get there. And then be completely distracted by shiny stuff and never get around to making art with the supplies you brought. I've quit bringing any art supplies, except an emergency art repair kit.
Necklace camp was nifty, but I never got in. And one year there were these complicated but cool metal and marble necklaces to make. And the steam whistle pottery making was amazing.
Unfinished projects rarely get finished on the playa. You may think you'll finish adorning your fancy google eyes parasol during the afternoons "when nothing is going on", but no, there's always something.

Hurray! I will definitely stop by again this year. I have the painting of a hand (your hand, I think?) that I got in 2012 hanging in my room!

Yay!
That was a problem child, took me forever to get the different colors to line up and not overlap too much. I do love it a lot though.

Hi Anti M,
This is my first burn, so excited to be a part of it this year! I have heard a lot about your home for wayward Art, and as an artist myself, have some wayward pieces that can definitely be encouraged to move on! Looking forward to meeting you and your 'home' on the playa!

What a fantastic idea! I spend way too much time at the Goodwill bins, and will keep a lookout for small, wayward adoptable art!

Re: Anti M's Home for Wayward Art 2013
Scored a huge, brand new gallery wrapped canvas for $20. The big $80 one, 36X48. Has a little damage to the back frame, which can be easily repaired. Destined to become camp art, but what the hell should I paint?

Godzilla vs. MyLarry, on a unicorn. It will be epic.
No, wait, that's my plan if I score some black velvet.
I obviously need more glow in the dark neon paint.

Why not let the ladies paint their boobs then press them on to the canvas. I haven't yet thought of what the guy's can paint and press...AntiM wrote:That's a given.

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I'm excited too. I camp across from kidville and I missed it. I'm working on art from cassette tapes. Very cool and retro funny. I really love to pick up bad art and decoupage magazine pictures on them. We used to sell them at the local 2nd hand. My Godchild bought a piece decoupaged by me and painted by her girlfriend. She found that out later. Small world. The world needs more bad art.
