OK, so we will need something to keep us amused during the ticket sale process (and if this has been done somewhere else I apologise!)
How long will it take from when the "gates" open til the 40k have gone.
I reckon it will take 27 hours.
What say you

Re: When will it sell out...
I predict that it won't sell out until it goes to last chance. I don't think enough people remembered to or heard about the sign up process.
Remember that there was only a 4 day window to sign up for ONE release of tickets. If you didn't sign up, then no tickets.. and only 2 per person allowed.

Re: When will it sell out...
Good point JS. There was not enough whining on eplaya or FB about how hard the system was to follow...
Perhaps we should start a new thread "How long til the whinging and whining starts about unfair the ticket pre-reg system". On that I predict 3 days...

There's also the idea that more than a few people that signed up for tickets won't actually use their reservations due to lack of funds and/or assumed future availability. I know more than a few with that scenario..

Re: When will it sell out...
And there are the people that double registered (ie both people in a couple) but with the intent of only buying two tickets - but wanting a "spare"code in case something stuffed up.
It is going to be fascinating to watch it pan out...
i wish we could see the stats but understand why we won't.

Re: When will it sell out...
I suggested this in a different thread, but it needs its own thread.
I originally predict that tickets will not sell out in under three weeks, but to satisfy the game being played here, I will go ahead and say 27 days.
I wonder if JS is right, though?

It will sell out 6hrs 6mins 6sec after the sale starts

Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: When will it sell out...
Does it really matter either way??
Some people will buy tickets. that is true
Some people will fail to buy tickets.
Of the people that failed to get tickets on their first try - about 1/3 will make the effort to find tickets and succeed

strange how things change. i remember going to stores in berkeley and seeing a sign showing they sold BM tickets. imagine just walking into a store and buying a ticket instead of all this hullabaloo..!

When you consider how crappy the stores in Berkeley are getting, is it actually a surprize?

Excellent point Mr/Misses Fish. I'm not particularly old, but I remember going down Telegraph in the early to mid 90s and going to the independent head shops, record shops, and even Tower Records. Now it's Gap, Anthro, and Blondie's pizza has even gone way down hill. I don't even think I saw a homeless person tripping balls yelling at strangers this past trip

Re: When will it sell out...
I must give the org credit for how the ticket sale is implemented. So far, at least.
They raised the price to a point where demand was subdued, in a classical Econ 101 form. And they didn't promote the sale, leaving people who knew about it and really wanted to go a very good, or excellent chance of getting tickets without stress or drama. They cut out many of the weekenders by the price rise. As well as cutting out any dipcraps who would try to scalp, or casually scalp, their tickets by the price rise and the further ticket release in early August. And they cut out many who live far from here who would not be extremely committed and able to go by, as the current Uniform Commercial Code implements, once a ticket is sold it stays sold, and after few weeks before the event there may be no way to effectively sell it, forcing them to either dump the tickets earlier or eat them.
It seems the 3,000 $650 holiday sale tickets didn't sell out, given that people reported that they signed up for tickets after the first day of the sale. This sets a very, very hard cap on what tickets could possibly go for, rendering trying to get tickets and casually scalp them when they are received in the summer something only idiots would attempt. Apparently, the 10K sale to theme camps didn't totally sell out either, at least not immediately. And, the theme camps don't need to hoard any tickets, especially at these raised prices, people who want to join their camps can buy their own ticket.
I still think that it would have been more "burnerly" to have a lower price and limit demand by names-on-tickets, but this system is working, at least so far.
BMOrg has the ability to promote ticket sales later, if it is actually needed to sell out all the tickets. So they should have no reason to try to get a sellout now. They know very well how many tickets have been sold, and how many are registered for the current sale. So, to get any indications of this, as the magicians say, watch the action of the hands, don't watch the face (or drink the Kool Aid).
Given this, i have no prediction on when the tickets will actually sell out, other than it's probably immaterial this year. Way different than the ticket fiasco last year.

Re: When will it sell out...
I could possibly buy into the theory of price manipulation/demand testing by the borg this year. Hence.. the adamant statement by the propaganda machine that no stats will be released.
Not that it's bad or anything.. it just.. is what it is: Their party and they'll charge and do what they want.

Re: When will it sell out...
It will either sell out the first day, or it won't sell out at all until extra tickets are promoted as being available to the masses. Most everyone who signed up for the main sale (and has the means) will be online going for tickets within the first few hours. These are the core burner folks who have their shit together and, if enough of "us" signed up, the tickets will all go fast. It will all come down to how many registered in time.
So my prediction is it will sell out within 12 hours (or not).
How's that for a prediction! I'll take my dusty hug right now!

In the wristbands for Bonnaroo, they put a chip in there so if you wanted to go into or out of the fest gates, you had to have your arm scanned. We were trashed one night and went out where we were not suppose to. Next day we go to the gate to get in, and the dude says "You are already inside. The computer chip says so." Do we have to pre-register to buy tickets to that event?

Re: When will it sell out...
Ok.. so here's another scenario:
Out of the 40k tickets that are available for the pre-registration only "main sale", only around 10k sell since so many people lagged on the registration part.
Everyone else rushes STEP between now and Aug.. but there aren't enough STEP tickets in the pool to even come close to the demand since only 10k were bought.
No one can plan since OMG sale isn't until a few weeks before the event. Ass load of whining ensues that even eclipses last year. Some people go, some don't. Event doesn't sell out. 48k max population.
