Sound Camp Help!
Hey Everyone! So I'm not entirely sure on where to find some information like this but I am currently a live sound engineer going to the playa this year and I would really like to get in and help any sound camps that might need help with their audio equipment.
I've tried contacting Opulent Temple and a few other camps, but I haven't gotten a reply from anyone. Can anyone here point me in the right direction? Or does anyone know who I might want to contact about this?
Thanks guys!

OT is not on the playa this year. Good luck with the search... I don't frequent sound camps so I can't help directly... join their facebook groups, attend their events of you can, go to camp meetings off playa as well as work weekends. Good luck.

Re: Sound Camp Help!
I'm moving this over to theme camps, since this is more of an issue of a sound engineer trying to find a camp to join.
Take a look at the How To Join A Camp thread at the top of this board. Then look up and check out the web sites and Facebook pages of camps that you may be interested in working with and reach out to them. Remember, most of these camps have been doing this for a while, and probably already have at least one or two experienced sound engineers in their ranks. It may help if you were to come from a place of being a fan of what that camp does, and not just some guy writing everyone looking for a big rig to play with.

You could also volunteer for Center Camp Sound Team... they have great equipment, and the eclecticism of the acts can't be beat...

Re: Sound Camp Help!
I'd advise a "resume lite". Most of the places on the OT level have their own crew, and are pretty serious--not just wanting some random guy. On the main web site there's a list of placed theme camps, work that list.

If only you were a DJ.. you could get a gig no problem. There's always a huge demand for more each year.

Re: Sound Camp Help!
Second Center Camp and I believe they have a volunteer mechanism if you search around the main website. The opera, is that still happening? As Mr T notes, go through last year's theme camp lists looking for live music and the What Were When. Better yet, meet camps in your regional and help with sound at regional events and fundraising parties. Running sound for live musicians is much more interesting than for DJ's. If you have done field sound, there are always documentarians who could use better sound or sound post. Good luck.

It doesn't hurt to mention any skills, but you may want to look outside your standard skill set.
There may not be any call for an engineer until there is a problem.
Then they will come and WAKE YOU UP.
The Cafe always has setup to do every year and runs constantly.
You may just have more fun with something you haven't done before.

Where is "Second Center Camp" located? I've never been able to find it out by the trash fence.some seeing eye wrote:Second Center Camp and I believe they have a volunteer mechanism if you search around the main website.
