Re: EDM industry news
I've split this from last year's Dear Sound Camps thread in politics and philosophy because the articles you're linking are general EDM industry news, and not specific to the politics and philosophy of Burning Man (any more than news about General Motors or Ford would be, since many burners use their products to get to Burning Man).
It will be interesting to see how things progress with Beatport. Retail chains (music retailers in particular) have a long history of being bought and sold, ecommerce sites aren't really much different (except they don't have hundreds of retail stores to shut down).

Re: EDM industry news
the dude owns elvis for god's sake...it's total vertical intergration, and this man plans on consolidating the "EDM" world and now "Pop" music and all of it's "Content" under one big SFX Sillerman Umbrella.
fuck that.
fuck the big money.....fuck the red bullshit.....the barbarians have snuck past the gates, infiltrated your infrastructure and are about to destroy it from within.
mark my fucking words.

Re: EDM industry news
Maybe this should be posted under the humorous conspiracy theories thread, but:
Given that this thread was quickly split off from an active thread and "buried" here, and last year Robert Sillerman promised to spend $1 billion dollars buying up EDM (alternative) festivals, is there some info that we, ones with Enquiring minds, don't know?
From the TicketNews article linked below:
"Thus, just as it was 20 years ago, the media mogul is on the hunt for regional promoters whom he can unite under one roof, once again under the SFX Entertainment moniker. The Times article reports that Sillerman claims ongoing negotiations with roughly 50 promoters and getting tentative deals with around 15 so far."
The tin-foil hat crowd among is may be asking, "Is John Frum going to be abducted from the playa by aliens this year?", as well as, "Is our High Exulted Supreme Rabbi, Larry, one of the 50 and using it as bs negotiating leverage?" Enquiring minds want to know!
At least, it makes a good tin-foil hat conspiracy theory

Buried? I read by going through "new posts" - this is the top one. Really buried. It was split because it didn't have anything to do with theme camps (at least not their event incarnation)
Luckily the club I work for uses bootleg mashups, no-one would buy us because we're legally a grey area.

I read from forum to forum, and have trouble thinking of "Open Discussion" as a burial ground. In some ways, this it the heart of the board, the socializing heart of the board, at least.

And I thought it was the End in '92 when the underground started showing up in SoCal bars and clubs that served alcohol. Whatever happened to the warehouse-break-in-raves of the early 90's?
