Hi gang!! back from 4 days of shepherding 4 17 year old girls in and around Disneyland.
HOLY CRAP!! beat me to death! hahahahaa

I had promised a couple of them, way back when they were kids, I'd take them to Disneyland (their parents never had the money to take them, or, well, didn't for whatever reason) if the got through high school. So, along with my daughter we took a "road trip".....

Great kids, great time!!!

yeah, AntiM: Lots of folks harsh on the whole DL, corporate, whatever. but, to see a kid see it, for the first time....dang, tears me up every time. I've always made a point of trying to take a kid with us, who couldn't otherwise go. Just the pure wonder and joy on their faces.

I'm not a big fan of the Corporate Mouse, but I went to DisneyWorld a few years ago with my son.

Man, there's something for everyone. If you want to turn away from the corp side, you can geek out at the engine that is a Disney Themepark. Secret Tunnels, Efficient People Moving, Feral Cat Populations! SO RAD.

I also just had the chance to explore the abandoned Six Flags in NOLA while I was there. I gotta say, that's my favorite way to enjoy a day in a Theme Park... let it sit destroyed for 7 years.

The castle of mischief looks cool, MDF. The art and projects taking shape for this year's event are way off the charts so far, I can't believe it's only February.

It's another blech day in the bay today (it even had the audacity to rain! lol), fortunately for me I've been indoors the whole time re-working parts of my studio and software setup and testing an upcoming release of a big application I use. Rebuilding rack effects and testing controller performance doesn't sound too exciting, but I'm glad to be getting the chance to do it, and looking forward to evolving my setup.

need warm cognac..........3" of snow and counting.

I went "out and about" to check out the town, and meet Looneytune for lunch.
People, are amazingly entertaining!!

with a few inches of snow on the road, chaos ensues.....stupid asses, with those little, lowered cars, with super wide tires.......they actually go out and try to drive!!
On hills, it looks like a bomb went off! cars everywhere, facing all directions........and more sliding by the minute. Looks like an airstrike hit. No one comprehends snow tires (I use studded ones), let alone vastly longer stopping distances, and steering.

Snow, yikes. Larry and a couple other flabedders are coming east across Donner's in this. I talked to him before he had chained, but not since. I won't call because I know he needs to concentrate.

I do not envy that drive. Sure, we get snow here all winter - but in the prairies it certainly is different (less snow, flat).

I've got my eye on a bike that I may spring for. It has a solid cargo rack, big ol' tires, comfy seat, and an internal hub 3 speed, which I'm thinking is a good thing considering the derailleur on the old Schwinn got pretty wonky near the end of my burn last time. (any thoughts on internal hubs?) It seems like a good starting platform, and the mischievous side of me kind of likes the notion of taking a brand new bike and turning it into a mutant right off the bat, a good burner fate for it..

Good luck with the snow out west. The weather here continues to bounce around from cold to fairly warm in unusually quick order. (eta: "cold" being a relative term, in case Rice reads this)

that sounds like the bike I have. the internal hub is great! I mostly leave it in 2 or 3, and shift the hub, since it's sealed and such.

Good to have you back, YG! I did Disney years ago and then my eldest daughter took over taking my youngest daughter there and they loved it. Me, not so much. Just watched Papillion the old movie with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Very long!!! Getting some tickets for a few Giants games this season. We generally go to about 3 or 4 games each season. I'm certain that is information that you could not live without! Well, maybe Doc can appreciate that.

They used to have certain tours where you got to see the inner workings. I was on their "energy" tour and got to see the tunnels under (I forget the name) the ride that used magnetic propulsion (not maglev, it used a push/pull of electromagnets to move the cars), the hyacinth farm, power distribution, the people mover and a short talk about how the monorail was engineered to go a lot faster but they slowed it down so people could take in the scenery. There was also the hydroponics, the dinosaur ride that was 100% solar, a short talk about Buckminster Fuller and the geodesic dome (spaceship earth in Epcot) and probably more stuff that I am forgetting after twenty plus years since I got the tour.

When Larry was hauling steel into Disney for Carsland, he was directed to go this way and that and take a turn. Well, one of the gates into Disneyland was wide open, blocking the small road he was supposed to go down. He ended up on Main Street. Before opening hours, so no people, but lots of folks freaking out. They very politely guided him back where he should be. I rode with him once, it is tight back there, so backing an oversized heavy haul must have been quite the sight. When I went with him, I got to see them working on the electric parade vehicles, and the backsides of the facades. Carsland was a big mudhole, they had a wash station for the tires of every vehicle in and out. Getting a pass for me was extra paperwork, and every vehicle went through a bombcheck station a few blocks over, plus another checkpoint at the employee gate. All the cars in front of us got a truck check and a quick look under with a mirror.

Ya gotta admit, Disney does, (at DL anyway) what Disney does, very well.

Sorry you didn't like it, Marty. 'course, it's not for everyone. I just love the detail, of everything, but mostly it's watching "most" of the people, and especially the kids, the joy and excitement, with the littlest ones, the sense of wonder at seeing "real" things, from a movie.
