Timing for booking Reno hotel/car/box truck?

So it looks like this will be my first year flying into and out of Reno instead of going through LA like I normally do. For those fellow Reno travelers, is there a general timeline for "you really should have a hotel room for the few days before Burning Man booked by X, as they tend to sell out by X" or "if you need to rent a box truck, you'd better do it RIGHT NOW because they're going to run out any second" etc etc etc?

The sooner the better. With the truck, as of today, Budget does not allow you to make the reservation this far in advance. Wait about a week and their calendar will allow you to book online for the week oF 8/26/2013

They had hotel rooms up until the last second in Reno, though you might have to upgrade from the Sands to do so. There are over 20,000 hotel rooms in Reno.

Box trucks are probably harder to get. I'm trying to get one for this year. Online reservations for the burn are not available yet, and Steve at the Gentry Budget Truck rental has not given me a call back yet.

I made the decision this weekend to go with the 10' truck instead of a minivan after I saw the truck on the road. They are much smaller than I was picturing.

Gentry way stocks up a lot more trucks for the burn. They know we're coming...

Budget trucks in Carson City and Fallon Nv also rent to burners...

As I said the sooner the better. You should have no problem securing an online reservation by the end of this month and beyond.

There will be PLENTY of trucks available at the Budget/Gentry Way location. Don't freak out. Just reserve when you get the chance at the end of the month.

FYI - Straight from Steve @ Gentry Way, this year there will be one flat rate for everyone with no coupon code required. Nevermind the price that the online system spits out. Just make your reservation and then call in to get your total charge. More exact details for 2013 coming soon.

I'm giving this a nudge over to Q&A, since that's a better fit for preparation questions. You can use the share resources board to post rideshare needs and offers separately once you've figured out your plans.

As an answer to the question, book all your stuff as early as you're able. While some companies may not start booking until the event draws closer, do your research and make your plans as early as possible. As things get closer stuff gets booked up and rates can increase. Make sure to do lots of homework when booking flights and RV's, as some/all of it may be non-refundable. Most other stuff is refundable, providing you give them plenty of notice. As always, read the fine print.

FWIW, reserving a box truck costs only a pre-authorized $1 charge on a card. You don't pay until you pick up the truck. Don't worry about rate fluctuations through the year as again.. everyone is paying the same.

(Specifically speaking about our friends on Gentry Way. YMMV with all other locations/companies)
