Re: My packing list. Am I missing anything?
I second third & fourth the 'you can't plan for playa weather'. The first year I went (2005) it was so cold Mon. & Tues. nights I went to bed early because I was so cold. And one of the many layers I was wearing was a parka. Hot is easy, I just strip down. Washable is important, or you'll never get the dust off. And anything big, like your water buckets, get in Reno. All the stores are stocked for burners.
Oh and for food, granola bars/clif bar type things. I always have a couple in my pack because my appetite gets really weird out there, and you never know when you'll be out somewhere and realize you are really HUNGRY!!! And need something right NOW.

For chafing, I use Lanacane. Love the stuff. Saves my life when I'm sightseeing. I bringing extra so I can have one with me when I go out to reapply as needed.tattoogoddess wrote:moonrise wrote:

5 POINTS!! 10 if they are on stilts.
Hey also maybe someone can give me some advice on this.. i know weird but, I am a bigger girl... well yeah legs rubbing together... what is a good chafing cream? Or do I even need it sense perspiration is wicked so quickly?

One more thought: sleep mask. It can help if you are light sensitive.
It's dry enough that I just use a little powder to avoid thigh rash.
If you're sensitive to the heat, get a scarf and a small handful of pearllite (the stuff that holds water in your potted plants). Sew the pearllite into your scarf but leave lots of room for it to expand. On playa, soak your scarf...the pearllite holds the water and keeps your neck muuuuuch cooler.
We use old stuffed animals tied to our rebar ends.
Check your tent. If the roof is mostly screen you might want to use a different tent....or you can cover up the mesh by sewing old sheets over it.

How did the list work out TG?
I'm sure there are going to be virgins looking at that list.

Re: My packing list. Am I missing anything?
Really well!! Only thing I did wrong was not enough mole skins (make great gifts) and not enough socks. But I was prepaired. Also ran out of smokes and bandanas do not make good dust masks. Use the real thing.
To add for this year-
Real dust masks
More mole skins
More flashlights
Another towel
Another pair of flip flops
More deodorant. It melts out there. Who knew.
Nix the camelback as is rubs and hurts after day 3, platform playa boots are a no. Glow sticks are not bright enough leave them at home.
Forget the pop bottles. Use the solar stake lights to top rebar.
Spiral dog tie down don't work to!
IMHO "costumes" to much work and not comfy. Going for just comfy clothes this year

Re: My packing list. Am I missing anything?
I like your comment on costumes. I'm definitely going to get creative, but I have comfortable clothes I like to wear becauase, well, they're comfortable. I'm pretty open about expressing myself at home on the regular, so it's not like "omg, now I can finally wear what I want to wear!". I usually do wear what I want to wear (well, except for at work...god these clothes suck!)
Oh, and thanks for this thread. I've got quite the list going, in no small part thanks to you.

Babe magnets and none of those cheap knockoffs that don't ever work.
The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.

TG... You may want to look into a Thai Crystal Stone type of deoderant, it will hold up better in the heat.

Spray deodorant/anti-perspirant has always done me right.

Re: My packing list. Am I missing anything?
Ouija's make great coversation starters when you wear them around your neck.
Ok, sorry, I'm just being silly again.
I use the rock salt deodorant daily in defaultia. I tend to smell under my armpits for some odd and unfortunate reason, and it holds up pretty well through the work day (cube monkey). Not sure how well it would do in the desert in terms of keeping smells down. But it would definitely not melt, that's for sure.
Maybe it's just b/c after a few days I stop smelling my own stench, but whenever I spend time in the desert I feel like the dry air dries me out so much that, even with no deodorant, I don't smell like anything.
Maybe I'll bring some of that girl pump stuff that smells like watermelons and vanilla. You know, the stuff that if you come home smelling like it the GF gets mad and asks you were you've been all night. And why you have a pocket full of ones.
Haha, just talking ish again. But Jungle has a good idea with spray deodorant. Maybe even Axe.
Cheerio
