Ya got it.. The bolsters are padded.. The kickstand holds it from roll by lefting a wheel..

Do bike trailers count as bike builders?!
Ive made 2 bike trailers out of chair frames. You use the chair as a rough frame and then add extra pieces of 1/2" conduit welded in to make the frame floor and then use the wheels and forks off bikes.
We've made 2 so far with 3 more in the makes!
Still scrounging wheels for those.
They work great and you cant even tell theyre behind you while youre pedaling!
Next project is a rickshaw type trailer for hauling 1-2 people behind a bike or trike(also started from chair frames).

Sorry no pictures! I still havent mastered that picture link thing!

as for me, I am a mere amateur..... I have built 3 playa trikes over the years, all cut and re assembled from old bikes. This winter I made a "Rat Rod" themed trike. The frame was fashioned from 1.5 in EMT. The wheels are 15 inch from a Dodge pickup (center cut out and spoked). Drive train starts with Shimano/gripshift 9 speed, then transfers to gokart chain and on to a 2 speed rear axle. (When geared real low, gokart chain does not break, unlike bicycle chain)
Yes its heavy. Right now it weighs 200lbs. Eventually it will weigh 300. But it pedals like a dream on the flat.
I plan on replacing the 24 inch front wheel and hub with an electric hub/wheel this summer. (FYI, 2-3 wheeled pedal powered vehicles with less than 750 watt electric motors are considered bicycles by "The Man" and do not have to meet DMV standards/approval)
This summer I will also add propane cannons to look like chrome exhaust stacks.
The "body" is made from a recycled and rusty trash can and the "bed" was fabricated by me, ( purposefully rusted to give it the "patina" of a Rat Rod.)

There are LOTS of ways to go with a MIG welder and a pile of $10 used bicycles. Have fun and dive in.

Made up the axel for the training wheels on the reBike,, Tacked it wit a battery and jumper cables.. This will be three wheels across the rear..They will U bolt on for BM and off for the street.

chopitweldit, How about some on your Rat Rod.. Do you have any pic's while building it..

Today my arm is dead from selvage.. 10.ooo strikes with a plastic hammer.. It was an old project shaft with froze collors.. I had made up a axel from tube and dole to cut weight.. The collor was zero hand fit to the shaft. Then the rust set in.. Worked them lose and sawsalled the f''ers.. Needed the heavy duty wheels for out riggers on the reBike.. No rain Sunday so I will take step by step pictures.. Then have my son post them..

My Ice Cream Bike, giving out cold treats to skydivers as they land. The ice cream maker in the cooler is driven via chain. Why just ride when you could be making ice cream?!

May I suggest stainless welded mesh, for a great effect?

Looks beautiful, and gracefully thin, but tough.

Seems hard to find, until you know how.
It is considered filter material, so food supply, not metal.
316L material in woven or welded.
Needs no finishing or detailing.
Or paint.

Great for grille protection, or gates, windows, etc.

I have found it in a wide range of gauges.

I'll hit the yellowpages in the morning and see what I can find.
Is the stuff really pricey? Im trying to keep costs down I've only spent around $15 on conduit for the frame(and most of the material we've used to build it so far has been scrap or free).
I will need around 3'x4' of it.

It is definitely more expensive than steel expanded mesh.

I found a factory that will mail order direct, much cheaper.
Can't find the address, but northeast.

Cost is all over the place with it.
There is no substitute for some applications though.
Light and strong.
Big advantage in not needing paint, powder coat, etc.
Very stiff.

The welded mesh is a square or rectangular mesh with all joints smoothly welded.
It is often used in racing, for debris protection.
Pegasus has it, but the most costly source, I would think.

Maybe you can find some scrap?
Try breweries, food production, etc if you want it.

I think expanded metal is the technical term for what he used.

You might find some in a scrap yard.
Unfortunate so much isn't being saved to re-use any longer.

Couple a years back some one had a flaming rider.. It was riged on one of those add ons so you can have a tanton....

I thought Id revive this thread because
of all the really neat projects people have made
and hopefully encourage new projects as well!

So I had mentioned these projects in earlier
posts and never gotten around to posting any pictures.
The top is a bike trailer made from old chair frames as
a starting point.
The second is a pedicab trailer.
Its actually farther along now but I dont have a
picture to post.
Now theres a steel mesh floor and handrail on the front.

I have one of those baby trailer things, two bike wheels and a long arm, looks like it attaches to the rear hub somehow? Has a baby "enclosure" zipper clear front and all (the fabric is totally in shreds and ruined from being outdoors). But seems the frame and stuff would be good.
if anyone wants it, I don't.

Yes. The type of baby trailer you describe attaches to the side of the bicycle frame, immediately forward of the rear wheel axle. The mount fits into the "triangle", which keeps it from sliding out of position. Generally, the mount can be easily installed and removed without tools. The outward curve of the draw bar allows the combination to turn. Such trailers work well for fetching ice in BRC. They usually fold up for easy storage and transport.

Check this bike I got my hands on... sealed shaft drive! I've never seen one like it before. Seems like a terrific thing to use on the playa.
It's got an 8 speed hub.

Wondermuss! I have seen such on the interweb, so I don't think it is a one-off, but it is obviously not commonplace either. I'm theorizing there may be a tad more friction in those two bevel drives than there is in a chain, but who cares. Please bring it -- I want to pleasure my eyeballs.

Holy sprockets, or lack thereof, have you got the same bike? I just got it by chance, I don't know anything about it, I haven't even ridden it yet. Was it expensive? The bike looks like it might have been. Is it efficient? It seems like a great thing for the playa even if it gives up a bit of resistance to a chain and sprocket setup. No catching your pant leg, bright green fur, or whatever in it... no oily or rusty chain to deal with... not to mention the Cool factor!
Elliot, I'll bring it even if I don't intend to ever ride it. (I'm a mutant vehicle type, not a biker)
