The ePlaya is a bunch of Burners who choose to spend their time here (even us Mods are volunteers), mostly because we love the playa & love the camaraderie. Over time, most of us have also met in person at the annual "ePlaya Meet & Greet", held on playa at Barbie Death Camp, formerly on Thursdays, now on Weds. The regular posters here have 1 or 2 degrees of separation between them - and all poster & lurkers are invited to attend. It is not an elitist gathering (they even let me in).
BRC is a city of 60,000+ people, there's no way to know everyone. You can be quite anonymous, you can be pretty damn public. There are some camps "the masses" never find, there are huge ones on the Esplanade you have to go out of your way not to see.
However, the party analogy works in BRC as well. When going into a strange camp or bar I always take the time to get a read on the energy, chat with people, remember that the "bartenders" and DJs are just other people on their vacation as well, and I have no right to expect anything from them (I always carry some booze of my own so this doesn't stress me). When you go to a kink camp, get to know them & their rules, make them comfortable with you. Some are very selective who they let into the play area, some don't care.
