Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Hi YG, for what it's worth, we have a family of skunks living under the house and every so often we get a whiff. My understanding is that the odor in the skunk smell is a chemical called Lauryl Mercaptan. Now that information should certainly lessen the smell factor. (Yeah right!) Weather down here is really beautiful. Knocked myself out yesterday playing 2 hours of 2 very tough sets of tennis. Won them both, but I was out of commission for the rest of the day! Dang!
See you soon!

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Congrats on the wins, Marty! Yeah, the weather really turned itself around for the weekend. All week was unseasonably cold (at least it was in town), then suddenly on Friday it warmed right up. We saw a few more places and may have found a new loft, but won't know for a few more days whether or not we're approved or not. We also got some more info about the whole zoning/code situation. The new owners really got zapped on it, the old owners had cut up 35 lofts. It affects 70 units for them, including their own business office in the building. Now to dive on into Monday - a few test projects on the radar, and hopefully I'll get some time to wade through a bunch of footage my gf shot on the playa last year but hasn't had the chance to go through. Where's my mocha?

Hi AntiM
Hi Simon. Yeah, those fleeting minutes of fame. One of mine was participating in a Pagan ritual, at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, and in Kennewick WA, over the bones of "The Kennewick Man" not long after discovery. And then meeting with tribal Elders of the native tribes in the area.
Many jokes were made at my expense, and, it was the first time my family (very xtian at the time) actually believed what I had said, that I was Pagan, after seeing me on Headline News.......hahaaha . I got a stern talking to.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
haha knowmad!! very cool. great guys, we had a good conversation, very "informal, cards on the table". I promised discretion, so that's where it ends..........but, there was this hilarious picture of 3 of us, in one of the local papers, where one of the elders is sort of looking at me, (we're standing very close, chatting), another guy is there, and I look like I'm about to bite his head off. I was much more muscular back then, and a lot taller that the elder, so it looked bad.knowmad wrote:haha! Truth of the photo, was he was right at the funniest part of a story, and I was trying not to bust out in hysterical laughter, until he finished.
Of course, they didn't print the fotos of us laughing and shaking hands and such, just the one where I look like I'm being mean.......well, we parted friendly, yes, we disagreed on a few matters related to the "find", but all in all, a very human, humane, and wonderful interchange. Please, give my regards to any who might remember me.

wow Trilo...........what a lesson on real estate, huh?
Good luck on moving forward.
You seem to have more energy than anyone around. How do you do it? so many projects, and still seem to work in a bit of fun.

Yeah, Yggy, it's been a weird thing. It seems like a crazy and monumentally big thing for their due diligence to have missed, but it sounds like the old bldg owners were doing their part to be deceptive.
As for all the energy, I've got to point out that these are all indoor projects. Mostly at the desktop, though a little rewiring of stuff here and there. Nothing too physically demanding, it's mostly brainial problem-solving stuff and sometimes repetitive tedium.

Yikes.... Splitting rental dwellings into more units -- in utter defiance of fire safety codes and such -- in order to collect more total rent is the oldest dirty trick in the book. The lawyers will be buying new yachts.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
I dunno, we've been here since before the current boom so it's hard to say if they were just scamming to sneak a few dollars, or if they were splitting up bigger units they couldn't fill in order to satisfy demand for smaller units. I'm trying to be zen about it - had the old owners not done such an "underhanded" thing, we wouldn't have had this place that we've loved living in for so long. And in their defense I think they paid decent attention to safety (even our chopped live/work space has an exposed ceiling so we can see the solid sprinkler system, ample smoke detectors, emergency lighting and carbon monoxide detectors).

just a note. A few of those people are the kind that open doors for anyone who happens to be close. I mean, ugly as I am, I still sometimes have doors opened for me. Surely it is not because I need it.

It does get complicated. There is a lot of nuance. I'd probably be more open about it if I didn't have the struggle quite so often...Box Burner wrote:just a note. Well written, your message.
My sweet (deceased) hubby lived in a wheelchair, and the only time I'd open doors for him was if I happened to be walking ahead of him. Otherwise, he'd insist on opening them. I understood completely why.

Cheer! Trying a regional variant of our favorite drink: an Apia Octopus. I for one would't object to a holler if I were to be "vortexng" a friend or stranger. I know what it is like to have tools taken from my hands by men who see ñothing wrong with doing the job for a woman. Being capable is personal space.

I hope I haven't vortexed anybody lately but, I do tend to interact rather than ignore so I'm sure I put my foot in it regularly. Random apologies in advance; I am a door-holder too. Though not (I hope) a tool-grabber.
