It is... it is a new shop floor. Roughly three times the size of the (now officially referred to as) Old Studio. Moving, even though it was all of seventy five feet, was a pretty big task. We planned for two weeks and it took five. But it's all in and back up to running speed. How've you been? Any new projects? Karine and i are really wanting to make it to The Burn this year. Not sure what will happen, though. The new space comes with new responsibilities.

Yeah, Matt, a man's got to have a shop suitable to his activities. I love my barn with its 31 cubic yards of very smooth concrete floor, even though I mostly just putter-around in there. Just finishing an all-galvanized-steel staircase to the attic now. All the stair-case materials except the bolts and nuts were free from the Freecycle list.

I hope that's square yards, Elliot. I can't think why you'd need that much depth.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Hello bar, and good to see you LeChatNoir. The new shop sounds great, so far this year seems like it's been packed full of moves and transitions. So many people are moving, changing workspaces, and even changing jobs and we're only at the end of the second month. Pandorra and I are in that crowd, we just got a new live/work space. We get the keys next week but are already in the frenzy of packing and staging stuff and working out all the logistics. Drinks all round!

I"m guessing with footings, 1800 sq. ft.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Fishy,
Barn floor surface area measures 24' x 36' = 864 square feet. Divide by 9 to get square yards = 96 square yards.
Floor is 4" deep at its thinnest, and something like 3' deep at its thickest -- at perimeter footing on downhill side.
31 cubic yards were delivered in 3.4444 truckloads, each full truckload containing the classic "whole nine yards".
Cost $10,050.-, all labor included. The building itself I assembled myself with help from friends. Of course, the building "kit" cost much more.
Does that help?

I wish. But when we count the attic, which spans roughly 2/3 of the footprint, we get something on the order of 1440 sq. ft. This is a monolithic slab with full footings on sloping terrain. Plus... there are two footings in the middle, intended for support columns in case of heavy upstairs storage -- which of course I don't have so no columns; a couple of cubic yards wasted to meet the blueprint and ensure building inspector approval.

thanks Martiansky.........watching that intricate dance, almost a ballet, was to much for me. Those two!! wow!!
What ya drinkin?
Oh, Elliot. See, I didn't know. I was just working on the guess of normal 4" ish slab, good footings and maybe some extras for weight.
I, too, have found at times, it's easier to fill it with concrete, than try to fill and compact an area, especially to shape.

Bike forums specifically.
I haven't found particular strong ones in trikes, though they're here and there.
The kinetic people may have forums too.
Elliot knows a great deal, but there are more of them not on eplaya.
If you can't find it, those guys can build it.
