Temporary hair (mustashe) color??
Head is shaved but I do have a mustache. I'm debating about some wild color but to has to be temporary since my default life might have a problem with the color
Any suggestions what can be used to "color" the mustache yet be temporary enough that I can wash it out back in the default world?

Not sure about a stache... A guy in my camp has a bear and he gets colorful braids put in it... Maybe you can do something like that and clip em to the side when eating and such?

Do what you like and then shave it off afterwards if nothing else..

You will be eating that color, something to consider, and not a consideration in hair products.

Shaving off is NOT option according to my wife
Hadn't thought about the eating of the color
Think I'll leave the 'stache alone. Two years ago I wore a third eye on my forehead for the week. In the default world I had a reverse tan eye for about a week. Definitely a topic of conversation

Re: Temporary hair (mustashe) color??
Here's an idea:
I don't know what color you got right now, but for this plan the blacker the better. So if it's not black, then gradually start dying it darker and darker. Start NOW!
So shortly before the event, bleach the Hell out of it. Then you can dye it whatever color your mind can dream of.
When you get back make it dark again. Nobody will have a clue.
If it's fairly light, there are colors you can put over it that will wash out.

You're going to have to use a strong bleach to pull out black dye. Strong bleach = lot's of fumes, going right up your nose. You also want to keep hair bleach moist, so it's normally done with a cap - you'd have to figure out cover your mustache while still breathing.Ugly Dougly wrote:So shortly before the event, bleach the Hell out of it. I done this and what Eric said is spot on.
Be it peroxide or ammonia it is a hellish 1/2 hour of trying to breathe through a tube and not gag.
Of course all your friends will be there doing their best at making you laugh.
The little spray-on manic-panic colors work well if done skillfully by a trusted partner in crime.

Re: Temporary hair (mustashe) color??
I made a movie a while back and tried to dye some of my actor's beards so they looked blonde or red. Sometimes if they had salt and pepper I could add a little color to the salt. This color came in a spray can and was available at a costume store; it washed out pretty easy (tried it on myself first of course!).
The colors were not really "red" or "blonde"; instead they were all over the spectrum, perfect for Burning Man.
I guess you just have to try it before hand.

Re: Temporary hair (mustashe) color??
You should try spray cans of temporary color - they sell them at most drug stores like rite-aid. Before you go, create a template - basically a plastic or harder paper sheet with the exact shape of your moustache cut out of it. Place it over your face and spray in short bursts, so only the stache gets colored. If you're not washing, it will last a few days, or you can continue to apply layers over the previous days' dust. Will wash out simply with a little water and soap, over a towel or bucket if you want to return to a natural look on Playa or just need to get clean for a few minutes. The key to this is practice. Try it at home, as it requires a bit of a steady hand to hold the stencil and spray at the right angle, and not overspray.

Re: Temporary hair (mustashe) color??
Dying does work.
Can't speak for how temporary.
Brushing color on looks best, not monochromatic.
Maybe food coloring or jello would work for short term?
The ones I've seen were done with the usual short term bright color dyes.
I would expect them to come out, but can't say.
There's at least one person in dpw that always does this.
If it wouldn't come out, i would just use short term dye to make it darker.

This is the way to go! Buy a color you like, spray a litte on a small area of your stashe. Leave it on for about 2 hours, then wash it out. Those spray on colors do wash out pretty good!Chowski wrote:You should try spray cans of temporary color - they sell them at most drug stores like rite-aid. Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Nope. Facial hair is similar to pubes or gray hair. It is course and very resistant! Manic panic will not work. The most staining color out there to someone with out a license is ion brights at Sally's.
40 volume with a pack of v-lights bleach powder. Half hour if not more. Don't wash your face before. You will want the oil on your skin.
Get a bottle of DEMI developer and a tube of the color you want. Mix 25% developer to 75% color. Apply. Use heat if you like it will come out a bit darker.
Use the pack of ion color seal.
Tah dah!
Also they do have pub dye, not sure how well it work though. Meh
FYI, I am a practicing and licensed hair stylist with MANY years of multi colored hair.

Check out my avatar...theatrical colored hair spray...washes out easily with a little soap and water. Available at party supply stores. Daily touch ups keep it looking fresh, or wash it out for a different color scheme every day.
Works best on light-colored hair...or if you're lucky to be gray like me!

Re: Temporary hair (mustashe) color??
My beard has turned white. I grow it out a bit before BM and dye it purple - but I use permanent color. Then, I trim it or cut it after.
With permanent dye, you don't want to dye your face, too, so... don't do that.
Use permanent. And cut it after, if you must...
