where can i use a burn barrel?

I noticed I can only use burn barrels in permitted areas. where are these permitted areas? is my camp one of them?

Your camp is a fine place to use 'em. Just set on some cinder blocks so as not to leave a burn scar on the playa surface. Make sure to have some sort of screen over the top to minimize flying burning schtuff and raging tent fires.
I'd direct you to a thread discussing burn barrel info but I'm too lazy to look for them. There's one or two around here. Also check the survival guide at burningman.com. I know I've seen some info somewhere there.
Use the right kind of top screen and you can cook Spam, bacon, and baby seal steaks on it.
