Hi Coral! I envy your short drive.
Will you be traveling with other Burners? And being so local to the Burn, have you watched Burners take over your city for years?

Re: Hey There!
Hello Everyone!
To answer your questions I actually will be traveling alone. I have a decent amount of friends that will be going but I am looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends. I am very fortunate to have such a short drive and have watched burners come in an out of this little town for years on end. No doubt they have added to my enthusiasm about finally being able to attend this magnificent event!

Re: Hey There!
After perusing the blogs I have noticed a lot of raver bashing (this was after I posted my picture of me in my rave get up). Is there any particular reason as to why burners don't like ravers? Ive read a couple people saying its because our bad reputation, but I have heard some not so great things about burners too, yet that doesn't make me dislike them.

Re: Hey There!
Many feel that the huge numbers of people who attend the burn mostly as a rave/music event are pulling it away from other stuff that they value more.
We still like them better than hippies.

I see.
Well, speaking for myself, I am not going for sound camps. I go to EDM events for that. I am going to Burning Man for the art and the people and most of all to learn about myself. It's a shame there are those who go out there just for th DJs when there are plenty of other raves and EDM events they could be going to for that kind of environment (which are much cheaper then attending BM).

Re: Hey There!
In my oppinion the raves are a welcome distraction at night for like an hour or so... But there's so much more to do and see at Burning Man! Things you'll never experience if you just go raving every night and sleep throughout the day. That being said; people are welcome to do as they please and if that's raving then others should respect it as such. There will always be snobby Burners sniffin' at the way you want to experience your Burn and you shouldn't let them get to you
Just remember this; time is the most precious thing you have at the Burn. Once it's gone, there's no way of getting it back. So think twice before you plunge into the ravy depths of the night for the fifth time that week. You don't want to drive home regretting haven't seen or experience anything else but those otherwise delicious raves
I do like your outfit! Rainbows for the win!

Welcome to eplaya Coral!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Burners actually have significant overlap with ravers . . . and hippies (who also get a lot of flack). Making fun of ravers and hippies is a snarky online sport, really. No one actually cares how you're dressed, for the most part. Half of everyone there looks like a raver or a hippie at any given time. What is truly deplored are a few stereotypical raver/hippie behaviors . . . the worst stereotypes of these subcultures.
Prepare to the teeth for the event, and bring your canteen when you go out at night, and you should manage to avoid the flak.

It is EVERYONE'S playground! Some of us just like bashing on Ravers, because Hippies are too easy. Don't take it too seriously! And just to help put it into context, half the people that bash on ravers here go to annual Tuesday 11pm Daft Punk show at the 3rd vertex of the Trash Fence. Its a show not to be missed!TomServo wrote:It is EVERYONE'S playground! Some of us just like bashing on Ravers, because Hippies are too easy. Don't take it too seriously! Haha Good! Well I'm excited! People say the best stuff is at night, but honestly I am quite excited to hangout dieting the day and see all the art people have created. I am working on a little something myself to bring as a gift to the burn.
As for the sparlke pony, my friends (and family) have already started calling me one. I am determined to prove them wrong!

Re: Hey There!
I think events happening during the day seem to be more surreal and creative--to me, at least--and people are naturally more outgoing then. I love the daytime on the playa, so I would encourage you to try it, too. Careful at first. At least you're from Reno and used to the heat, although you're going to spend a lot less time in air conditioning.

I have yet to have an apartment with air conditioning, I suffer all summer long! Haha But I know BRC is still going to be hotter so I will be packing light clothing wise. Has anyone worn harem pants out there?? How were they?

As I'm sure you know, if you're in direct sun, clothes that cover you are cooler.
