CA-299
Was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with 299 between where 139 meets up with it and Redding?
I'm coming from western Washington and would like to go through Redding and straight up I-5 on the way back.
Didn't really find anything searching and the wiki page is not much help either.
Thanks!

Do you actually want to see Redding, CA, for business or social reasons?

Re: CA-299
I plan on doing the Eugene-K Falls-Alturas route on the way down but being so close I figured I would get my In-N-Out fix on the way back.

You're a man after my own heart.

I think I've only been to In & Out Burger once, at least a decade ago (which was insufficient to become addicted) but I always use the Burn as an excuse to stop at a place called Burgerville once or twice.

Burgerville... i think there's one of those in South Tahoe. I recall it being very good. I am addicted to In & Out. The Auburn location on the way from SF to Tahoe is my favorite.

The only reason I'd want to see Redding, CA is because it was in that Fallout 2 game. Even then I don't think it'd be worth it.

I think it's big on the Rodeo circuit. And you can see Shasta from there.

I have not traveled it. But Google Street View has. There are also motorcycle touring blogs that have information on blue highways.

Apparently all that smoke blows up through the valley and ends up there.

Didn't even think of that, thanks for the lead.

I've been through that area a couple times and I wholeheartedly agree. It just so happens that the In-N-Out there is the one farthest north.

Re: CA-299
The In N Out in Redding is on the east side of I-5, on one of the exits off hwy 44. Hillside or something like that. It's in a very annoying traffic place. Maybe there is another one. 299 between 139 and Redding is a very pretty drive. If you really want to brave the nuttiness that is Redding near In N Out, you might want to turn south on Old Oregon Trail when you are almost to Redding. It brings you within a few blocks or so of the burger place without having to do a crazy loop from I-5. But you'd need a little Mapquest map/directions (or car gps) to make the correct turn off Old Oregon Trail. Otherwise, there is a GREAT little burger place in Adin. There's a burger place in Burney too, but I haven't tried that one.

When I look at the in and out site they don't have that. Although two years for a burger joint to open is... scarey.

Sorry...couldn't resist. It's an old April Fools joke that had us all worked up here in the Pacific Northwest...
BTW, I was in San Diego last month and had an I 'N' O vanilla shake, fries, and burger...mmmmmmm.

If I weren't surrounded by INOs I'd probably care. But to me it's just a burger. Probably b/c it's right there. I crave what I can't have. Fatburger is pretty good. We have a Slaters 50/50 (half ground beef, half ground bacon) and that is pretty darn tasty. I'm trying to think of what else....we have Rocky's in PB, that's tasty. Oh and Hodad's. I'd take Hodad's over INO any day. And if you go to the one in OB it's just got that great vibe going on. OB is one of the last beach towns to be an authentic laid back beach town/area, imho. That's why they freaked out so much when a Starbuck's was going in. There were protests. By hippies. Homeless hippies. God bless their hearts.
Redding sucks. The area up around there is beautiful, but not much of a town .
What were we talking about?
I just wish there were a way for the Pacific NW to be as green but with more sunshine. To me it's just about the perfect place to live with all those trees, salmon, camping, etc. But, while I can handle rain, being gray all the time? No way. Can't do it. Being in San Diego for the last 8+ years has made the concept of moving up there (which I've often considered) even less likely. Too bad they can't be like Hawaii. Kauai is SUPER green. And it rains all the time. But it's like an on and off switch. Perfectly sunny, then BAM, torrential downpour. Then it's gone. Works for me.
I haven't eaten meat in several months and now I'm craving a juicy burger. MMmmmmm, cow flesh.
