Our theme camp, “Playa Bike Repair,” is open to new members
Our theme camp, Playa Bike Repair is presently open to new members.
In Black Rock City:
- We run a "Bike Lounge," with a bar, music, shade, and tools.
- Burners bring us their broken bikes.
- We welcome people, and then we show each person how to fix his or her own bicycle.
- Afterward, we ask each person whom we helped to please help someone else.
- Last year, using this strategy, we repaired over 2,000 bicycles.
About us:
- We strive to create a caring, nurturing environment for people needing their bikes repaired, and a comfortable, friendly place for mechanics.
- Most of our members reside in camp. Others simply drop in.
- We have a great location and lots of amenities.
About you:
- Love bikes.
- Know how to do basic bike repairs (or willing to learn).
- Huge plus if you're a bona fide bike mechanic.
- Most important: friendly, welcoming, and willing to work. We're a service camp.
Our camp, formerly called Playa Bike Transport was founded in 2011. We are based in San Francisco, our members come from around the country, and we serve Burners worldwide. Many of us have been attending Burning Man for 10+ years. Join us!
Thank you.

Hey my name is Amanda!
I'm a virgin burner this year going with some friends.
I was just wondering since you are all about bikes if you knew where to get any relatively inexpensive LED tube lighting stuff for my bike?
I know we need them well lit.

Greetings & welcome to Eplaya, Teafog!
If you go to the section of the forum that says
Preparation--->Power & illumination---->Bike Lights
you may find your answers in that thread or you can ask about lighting your bike there instead.
Igellar, your camp sounds great!
I like that you are willing to show people how to repair their own bikes.

Re: Our theme camp, “Playa Bike Repair,” is open to new memb
Hi Igeller,
My friends and I have been talking about offering bike mechanic services at BM. I used to work at a bike shop here in Australia and my mate has been pulling apart and rebuilding bikes for years. Shouldn't have any issues fixing and teaching people to fix on the playa. Coming from Aus, we can't really bring tools but we can bring our hands and help out.
We're also very keen to join a camp. We do however, have six of us and an RV. 3 of of us would definitely be equipped to help out on the bike mechanic side of things. The others could contribute in other ways I'm sure.
I suppose, i just wanted to ask, is your camp Rv friendly? No matter what happens we'll be sure to drop buy and lend a hand. I'm sure you guys will be busy.

Igeller, Elliot's Bicycle Service And Tap Room salutes you! I welcome my customers to work on their own machines with my tools-parts-and-guidance, but so few are capable of Practical Tasks in this video-game-centric era. Keep up the good work!

Hey.. maybe that is a good thread to ask this question ^^
I dont wanna ship my own bike here from Austria to USA, the plan is to buy a second hand bike in san francisco or where ever and drive around on the playa ^^
so do you have any tips or recommendations where I could purchase a bike for the playa for a good price?

There are some bike contacts in there, but you'll want to contact them to see if they're updated for 2013 yet.
Also, try Googling bike rental cityname ePlaya.
Get something with non-skinny tires, then pick up lights and a lock.

Or you could borrow one from my little fleet of loaners, intended for ePlayans who must travel by air. Reservations now being taken by PMs.deadpoint wrote:...so do you have any tips or recommendations where I could purchase a bike for the playa for a good price?
I expect I will be on the 5 spoke between G and H, like last year.

I was just down the street from you last year Elliot. I was at 4:50 and H. I know to look for the bus this year.

Very good.
Now, maybe we should give the thread back to the Original Poster?
