HI gang!!
so, I installed the Hofstove in my shop, to give it it's final testing, IE: indoors, correct pipe size, no wind.
It was about 70 in the shop, no more, for sure.
I ran the flue 8" dia. pipe out through the wall in triple wall pipe, then up about 10'.

I could tell almost immediately upon lighting the fire, it was different.
I had suspected the combination of 6" pipe (not enough flow) and being outside at 40 ish degrees, with wind was part of my inability to get the ovens hot, very fast.

Inside, with warmer ambient temp (more like what the temp inside the Hof would be), and no wind, the ovens climbed fast, the baking oven going well past 350, aproaching 400 deg. I let it sit there, to see what would happan. After an hour, the temp remained, so I started changing flow patterns, and the oven responded!

Yay, and yay again!!!!!
Now just a few final touches and it's done (well, until I come up with something else to do to it.)

i just painted my kitchen, plus the ceiling in my entire front room (kitchen, living room, dining room) one coat primer, one of paint .... as well as a start on the kitchen cabinets, which are in my garage ...... and i'm now exhausted! but so glad to have that done. crazy busy .......... and when it all stops spring gardening ..... well ..... !!

Great oven news, ygmir. The great outdoors is quite a heat sink in January and February I guess. Those ovens will be a nice heat radiators as well into the Hoff, better thermal storage than just a long extended flue pipe. I had a friend who grew up with a big fireplace in the main room for cooking, and heating. He said the whole arrangement mainly served to suck the wood and heat up out of the house. Anything that could be heated along the way inside the house, or that prevented rapid combustion (more wood to chop and carry) was a plus in his opinion.
Great work, LF. That's a lot of ceiling painting. Are your arms sore? I wish I had a pair of those two foot stilts for that sort of work. I had to place numbers on every beam in the store this week at 90" just out of reach, and had to push a ladder between them all.

Just one bottle, but bring up your mugs and everybody can get a taste. This is nice stuff. It was given to me earlier today in Napa. I'm mentoring two high school seniors who are building pedal-vehicles for Kinetic Sculpture Racing as their official Senior Project. One of the Moms gave me the wine. Wonderful people. Two families, three generations, gorgeous redwood-studded hills outside Napa, very bright young fellas. There is hope for humanity yet! Race on Memorial Weekend.

Drove straight back to a rented hall in Clearlake where a certain v-e-r-y c-u-t-e lady named Lori (met her at a City Council meeting some time ago) had invited me to a movie and lecture. Sure enough, the speaker arrived an hour late, thanks to the above mentioned schtooooooopid time change. And this is a guy with a Doctorate in something very brainy involving human instincts, a world-wide best-selling book, a few years as a Zen Monk in Korea, and so forth. Still, freeken DST-nonsense got the better of even him.

All right, how did you like that Cab? When I drink wine it is usually the Chardonnay I serve in camp, but this Cab is very smooth and has a long gentle finish. It's a bit weak on flavor, but then... I have tasted a 1937 Grand Marnier Cognac, and nothing measures up on flavor after that.

In the Norwegian language, "hyl" means "howl". So it is quite common to refer to the invented word "alkohyl" when somebody is in his cups and "howling at the moon".

These high school boys make an interesting case study. They are bright and personable and all that, but they have no clue as to mechanical things. When I was 17, I could overhaul a bicycle blindfolded -- so to speak. These young gents don't know which end of a hammer to hit themselves in the teeth with. So I'm showing them basics, and they are soaking it up with relish. They are so deprived of such skills, and they respond like hungry wolves.

I am also able to show them an actual Practical And Relevant use of mathematics. I remember how math seemed too abstract and irrelevant to me.

All right, this Cab goes real well with flatbrød and gjetost (big crunchy crackers and goat cheese).

Told me you'd be at the Maker's Faire again this year. Glad to hear Hof Stove is working so well, YG. I never had a doubt. Can't wait to try some of LF's baked goods made in that oven! Bwahahahahahahha, I have been sleeping and sleeping and tending my young son who brought a Very Bad Cold home from college for spring break. I strong-armed him well enough to help me fix a leaky faucet today (TWO trips to the hardware store, yikes) but now we are relaxing with a bottle of wine while My Dear Husband cooks dinner.

Oh and the second trip to the hardware store was to replace the little can of WD40 my Dearly Departed Father gave us 33 years ago when we set up housekeeping together...
