Re: Guns, Love Em or Leave Em
Mark Kelly, husband of Gabrielle Gifford, bought a .45 and an AR15 the day after he testified that people don't need them. Said he wanted to learn about gun laws. Also said he wanted to show how easy it was to buy them and show how lax the background checks are.
Of course it's easy to buy them when you don't have a criminal record.
I think he was buying them for home defense and came up with a cover story when he was found out.
Dude, there's no shame in buying guns for self defense.
Millions of other people have done the same after being victimized by gun wielding criminals.
As for his plan to "surrender them to police"?
What he's doing is making a $2-3,000 donation to his local police department.
Why doesn't he talk to his buddy Feinstein and ask her to turn in her concealed carry permit? There are no carry permits in civilian hands in San Francisco... None.
Hypocrisy runs deep in the anti-gun lobby...

Sarah Brady and their anti-defense campaign took the position that handguns weren't protected by the Second Amendment because they had no military purpose.
Now they take the position that "military" rifles aren't protected because they are military.
Do I need to mention that the rifles targeted are not actually of military use, but the handgun types are?
I wonder how many people have died, because of their self appointed waiting period?

Re: Guns, Love Em or Leave Em
interesting gun laws. bought 2 last week, an AR-15 and a .45 1911 auto pistol. live in WA, but I purchased in OR. I could walk out with the AR, 30 round mags, or a Barrett .50BMG, or a semi-auto .30 cal belt fed machine gun. BUT the pistol has to be transferred to a WA FFL and I pick it up there. go figure, maybe Finestine will fix that.....

Yeah, that's mostly federal law, and sometimes you have to deal with state law too.
I hope everyone is lobbying every representative they have a chance to call.
I talked to cali D Mike Thompson's office the other day.
I mentioned how california's failure to recognize other state's laws is hurting tourism, besides their own constituents.
I am emphasizing that this is not a fight to preserve existing law, but to change it all now.
I don't know if this goes here, or in the drone thread, but it looks like fun.

Re: Guns, Love Em or Leave Em
I recently saw this on a web site. l'm not looking to start any political party bashing or arguments or debates. I just thought this was funny.
Question: How do you tell the difference between Democrats, Republicans, and Southern Republicans?
The answer can be found by posing the following problem.
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children.
Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges.
You are carrying a Glock and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
Democrat's Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the Glock have an appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me and not my family?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call 9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have a paint and gardening day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
This is all so confusing!
I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.

Oh, we're treating this seriously?
Usually when a criminal doesn't have a gun, it's because they can't hang onto one due to its value.
And habitual criminals are usually prohibited from having any firearm at all.
Banned persons may have a gun, but only carry it when they expect to use it.
Then there is the psychological element that some criminals don't think you will shoot them or it won't hurt them, or that they will get there first.
They are sometimes right.
Talking to a career cop recently, he often felt that a handgun had no intimidation value.
He specifically mentioned a drunk domestic that he feels would have required killing the man if they hadn't pulled out shotguns.
The man was sitting on the porch drunk when they arrived, and holding a pistol.
Two shotguns chambered and he dropped the gun.
This is the typical self defense use of a weapon in the usa, without firing a shot.
And many criminals are aware that if you close with a knife, you can quickly do more damage than with most handguns.
Here's a classic crazy knife attack. (In a good neighborhood, by the way.)
I think some people threw things at the attacker, trying to stop him.
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nat ... bing_x.htm
http://www.wmctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5180897
Ingram, chasing one victim into the store's parking lot, was subdued by Chris Cope, manager of a financial services office in the same small shopping center.
Cope said he grabbed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol from his pickup when he saw the attacker chasing the victim "like something in a serial killer movie."
"When he turned around and saw my pistol, he threw the knife away, put his hands up and got on the ground," Cope told The Associated Press.
"He saw my gun and that was pretty much it."
There are multiple videos on the web of public knife attacks and unarmed people trying to intervene.
In one long one, many people try to attack the person with the knife, but have no access to an adequate weapon, even a long stick.
it goes on for a long time.
