Are small consumer grade pyrotechnics allowed to be shot from within the city, or is this kind of thing restricted to open playa? I'm not talking a pyrotechnics show here,
just one or two mortar tubes fired to kick off an event at camp. Thanks y'all.

More info here:Fireworks may only be used at Burning Man in performance and art installations. Fireworks used in these projects are limited to consumer grade Class C. For reasons of safety and event stipulations we do not allow the use of Display Grade 1.3g Fireworks. Fireworks that are classified as consumer grade are known as Class C or UN 1.4g or UN0336. This includes fountains (gerbs), sparklers, night displays or cakes.
All pyrotechnic materials must be approved in advance by the Fire Art Safety Team (FAST). Artists must submit a description name and product number of the devices they plan to use, to ensure they do not bring devices that cannot be approved.

Consumer-grade pyrotechnics (aka fireworks) are no bueno (I believe they may even turn you away at the gates if found). It's also extremely uncool to your neighbors, many of whom have camps that have flammable materials and fuel storage that could potentially be put at risk. Blow off all your roadside fireworks before getting to the event, or better yet hold off on buying them until the drive back home.
