I've got 4 tents. The thing I learned after the first one... It's important to be able to stand up when you are putting your pants on.

Thank you so very much to IllyDilly who suggested this tent in my introduction thread months ago. I did a ton of research, decided it was the best bang for my buck and then waited for a saleWe just set it up in the driveway and I already feel like it's our home away from home, as a backpacker, I'm not used to this kind of luxury... being able to do a jumping jack in a tent?!?!? awesome.
What did you get?

http://www.big5sportinggoods.com/produc ... -tent.html is the tent I bought. And upon Illy dilly's suggestion I will use one of the side doors as the front door, use the first "room" as the entry take-off-all-your-crap room, then the center HUGE room will be for all our clothes and our hang out part (center height is 6'9" so no changing laying down for my 6'1" husband!) and the final room will be our bedroom, hopefully staying more dust free.

Not only this, but if you can't stand in your tent and have thin skin like mine, you will have bruised knees by day 3 or 4, from all the crawling.Celery (Jamey) wrote:I've got 4 tents. Having a tall tent is no barrier to winding up with bruised knees.Savannah wrote:Not only this, but if you can't stand in your tent and have thin skin like mine, you will have bruised knees by day 3 or 4, from all the crawling.Celery (Jamey) wrote:I've got 4 tents. Re: One Item for BM a Day
For those of you crawling around your low tents, here is a good suggestion to keep crawling to a minimum. It sits just 10 inches high, but lets you get dressed and washed up while sitting down. It's tiny enough to pack in a suit case. (Big Lots/Odd Lots $3) Called a pocket chair.

May have to start over on this mask - I kept trying it on as it was being put together and as soon as I put the gesso on it seemed to shrink. Right now it is slated for gifting and somebody else can decorate or paint it to suit.

If that is paper mache, keep in mind that it continues to shrink for a long time after making it. The thicker the mache the more weeks it might take to fully dry - even though the surface may seem bone dry, the inside dries much slower. One alternative is to build it up in layers allowing it to dry before adding the next layer.BeeWeeDee wrote:May have to start over on this mask - I kept trying it on as it was being put together and as soon as I put the gesso on it seemed to shrink. Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

you also might try letting it dry on a rigid form that won't allow the shape to change as the mache contractsDrawingablank wrote: One alternative is to build it up in layers allowing it to dry before adding the next layer.

What makes it worse is that, uh . . . you could have the boots professionally stretched.
Although I don't like to imply that you're not capable of it yourself.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Kind of an odd "thing a day" but...
I was laid off my job of 22 years last month, so one of my first thoughts (not the first, but one of the top 5 at least) was to figure my finances for the rest of the year to the worst extreme (not being able to find a job within the next month or so) and figuring budgets and such. In doing that I was able to figure what's in the savings, and a few odd, under the table jobs that I've done since being laid off, and was able to stash my "money to burn" So, I have all the money I need for all my supplies/toys/emergency to be able to still go this year, without having to use CC's, and still keep the lights on at home. That's granted that my water heater doesn't blow through the roof, or the transmission in my daily doesn't blow up. As it stands now, I'll still be able to fund my vacation, while out of work..Now here's to hoping to find a job that will let me off for almost two weeks, shortly after starting it.

Thanks!
But to avoid too much cross posting, you can see what it looked like last year in the "Denied Ouch" topic.
It'll have the same basic shape, but revamped for this year.

Nice, TG! I look forward to seeing the finished product (what's the painting of?)
Good pic of Tom, too.
Bounce, I looked at the pic in the Denied, Ouch! thread. It's a good-looking ship. Why is it called BRC Guardian? Just curious.
What are those dials on the outside? . . . And what kinda changes are you going to make? Unless it's a secret.
