Maybe a pillow or boffer fight is what this bar needs. I had the experience of heaving a lot of fragile tossable trash into a large trash compactor yesterday, perfect heft and grip. It was a great way to let off some steam at the time. I'm sure the other trash was mightily impressed.

Having never done this before, I have no clue how to get a link here to an awesome song/video..
I'd love to know what language it's in... my guess is (maybe) Basque, but I could be way off.
I've never heard a hurdy-gurdy played quite like that!

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
So, there I am, sitting in a restaurant, reading my book, listening to my iPod, minding my own business... and someone comes over and asks me if she can get me something while she's up. What part of reading a book, listening to an iPod doesn't she understand, or have I signed away all right to privacy in a public place. Someday, I'll be thinking on my feet and answer, loudly, of course, that like everybody in a wheelchair, I can't wipe my own butt, and that she could come to the bathroom and wipe it for me.
Really.
Really.

I'm going to shut off the computer now, and count slowly to 100. Maybe then I will no longer want to SCREAM at the person who refuses to recognize that some people are simply kind and helpful.

Yes, I guess I did sign away my right to spend time in my head without being interrupted. I don't remember doing it, it's hard to see how a train could have shoved that clipboard into my hands, but whatever.
There's helpful, and then there's the whole fucking world acting as if you cannot do things for yourself. There's being treated like you're ten when you're pushing 50. There's the whole horrible feeling that your friends don't take you seriously, that you are public property instead of a real person, with a real need--perhaps even a greater need--to be seen as the person she is, and not the furniture she is attached to.

It's not help if you don't fucking actually need it. And I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand.
Of course, it will catch up with most of you before you die, and you'll be sitting there going, I hate to admit it, but Fishy had a point.

At the supermarket, the clerks seem to be required to help me outside with my purchases. Okay, I'm in good shape, I've been lugging this basket around the store, now you think you need to walk me to my car?
Guess if they offer that to one person, they are required to say that to everyone.
But Fishy, what you have encountered is a Karma Hunter. "Please! Let me earn some merit so I can go to a better place when I die!" It's a reasonable request, eh?

*wanders in, makes CCCW*
HI gang!!
got started early with some cooking experiments:
I'm smoking a couple of pork chops in the Hof stove smoker. Cool temps, around 100 deg. so I'll still fry them later, but I hope it works. Seems to be, in that the chamber has smoke in it.............
and,
trying to smoke/bbq a turkey, in my home built bbq from last year. Got the fire in the fire box (next to main bbq chamber, smoke diverter (to mix smoke and hot air high and low), and a pan of water for moisture. I"m guessing it'll be running around 200 deg. or so, maybe a little higher. Probably take all day to get the internal temp high enough for safety.......but I hope it works. I put half a cube of butter and seasonings under the breast skin, hoping that helps.
any thoughts??

Thoughts on smoked turkey and pork chops? I've never tried, but I can cook a turkey until it just falls to pieces, is it too long? and as long as it stays moist (love those oven bags) I've never been disapointed. YUMMY! I hope it works well ygmir.
I appreciate the info on how a wheelchair unhappily alters the private space for the person sitting in it. Awareness is a tool we can always upgrade. I am puzzled by how good intentions can be felt so wrong, and will think on it more. I don't like upsetting strangers, especially if I have ignored the way to not upset them. I think I have mentioned to folks seated near me in restaurants with messy food and no table napkins, that I'm on my way, did they need more napkins... but only if the vibe was sympatico, like we all were exclaiming that messy food needed napkins on the table, or nobody had silverware, or meaning I was likely drunk and feeling the brotherhood of man thing, obliviously blundering through their privacy. I miss the feeling, but not the blundering.
Happy Sunday morning. I am experimenting with caffeine beverages of the cool and refreshing variety this morning. I found some recipes online for what was considered a bad choice of Coca Cola's: BlaK.

It was their 4oz entry into the energy drink field, and failed miserably. It was supplied by the drinks machine vendor at my workplace. The price point there was reasonable. Everyone hated it. It never sold through. $1.50 compared to $2.50 for a red bull. 4 oz goes down fast even if it's nasty, so contrarily I developed a taste for it. I was thinking about it last night, and found unopened bottles online in the $15.00 range. Then I found some recipe ideas. Coca cola, cream soda, and strong coffee is the recipe I found. I am making a cold brew coffee concentrate to test with as it has a mellow flavor that works well with sweet cold coffee drinks.

HI Elorrum:
have you hooked carabiners all over your jumpsuit and enlisted several folks a ground crew, in case you try to take off after drinking this?
Maybe someone with a syringe of Thorazine?
just sayin.

Ha ha ygmir. for the taste tests, this morning I am starting with my regular morning coffee alotment as my coffee additive. that should be safe. Then I'll test with the cold concentrate another day.
then. mu ah aha ahhahahah ahha

but seriously, I don't play with caffeine, tried the no-doze super coffee binges in college, and have a good sense memory of that silliness.

oh, that ad........the jokes, the puns, the innuendo............oh my.
*wipes screen*
It's about time to start planning a Hof party, ya think?
Dates of who can make it when:
I'm pretty doomed until the last weekend of June, and all of July, so far, is open.
the 4th of July being a Thursday, some folks might have long weekends and such, if that'd work?
Lets try to make it work for most, anyway. and or, have another later party.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Oh, that Coca Cola Blak stuff was harsh. I tried it once, and never had an interest in going past the first one. If that 5150 juice is real (it can't be, can it?) do be careful. It is possible to od on caffeine, and from what I understand the distance between feeling nauseous (too many shots of espresso in your coffee drink) and cardiac arrest isn't as far as most people think.
If you're looking for something in the energy/soft drink department, red bull is going to be one of the best bangs for the buck. It's their mix of caffeine, sugar, and taurine that puts it well above the competition. Bonus points for also having cocktail potential. Monster competes using value as their angle, but has less caffeine/taurine and more sugar (I think). Keep your eyes open at your local markets, around here there are regular discounts offered on the stuff. The local place we shop regularly has sales that bring it as low as $1.50 a can, and occasionally even as low as $1.25 apiece. The boxy membership warehouse chain also sells it on the case at a pretty good price, I think around $1.40.
I'd avoid going with the super-concentrated stuff (like the 5 hour energy things they sell at truck stops) on a regular basis. It's harder on your internal organs, you need to drink plenty of clear fluids to flush it through your system.
Fishy, of course you have a point. But that doesn't change the fact that the person was just trying to be nice. Some people are like that, the bastards. Maybe it's like UD said and they're fishing for karma, or maybe they're just trying to be nice to strangers. If I'm going through a door and someone's ahead of, behind, or coming the other direction I'll often hold it for a stranger. And if I'm out someplace and get up/head to the bar I'll go so far as to ask others if they need anything while I'm up (but don't think I'd go so far as to check other tables). I also let people open/hold the door for me, and get me stuff while they're up even though I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself. You're of course free to do whatever you like, but I suggest just smiling and say "no, thanks" or "I'm good" and go back to what you're doing than to get hung up on it and invest a lot of energy into anger and vitriol. The poor well-intentioned jerk doesn't know you, an has no idea that you're a radically self-reliant rock star.
