I'm with fishy on this. She was sitting there, reading and had her iPod on. This person, knowingly or not was rude. Would she have asked the same of someone not in a chair? Fishy is also very capable of asking for help should she need it.

I do not feel this intrusive behavior is the same as holding a door open for someone.

is this where "humanity" or "tolerance" come into play?

We can't know how each other feel, or think. So often, we rely on social convention, to answer "what do I do" questions.

Simple politeness, can drive us to ignore the fact someone is reading, thinking "friendly" over rides "I'm reading". And ask if one can do a favor.

It's as plausible, anyone, would appreciate the manners associated with opening or holding a door for another, as it is to assume, said person would resent being treated "special/different".

I'd rather see people "default" to polite or considerate, if there is a question.
And how hard is it to take an offer of caring or concern, even if unwarranted, as a sign of good in humans?

Jeebus. I'd rather see folks being too willing to he kind, or considerate, than the opposite.

There's a big difference between throwing a handful of marbles in front of a blind person walking, and lending an arm to an elderly person having a tough time with a set of steps. Consider this, regarding possible interactions with humans.

We create our reality, and can only see the world, through our own eyes. The only thing that is real, is what we perceive.
It's a choice, to see the dark, or the light, in any circumstance.

Meanwhile, time for a drink. We finally got the chance to hit up the Whole Paycheck place near our new place. It has a bigger/better assortment than the one near our old place, but the aisles are super-cramped. And maybe it was me, but it seemed that the people there pushed and shoved with reckless abandon. I doubt it's that people around here are jerkier than they are a mile away, I wonder if it has to do with the aisles being so tight that bumping into each other becomes commonplace and the pushing and shoving just comes along with it. Or maybe people were in an extra hurry for something, some kind of big game going on. Anyhow, we survived and the gf has stocked up on lots of freshies for salads and snacks and whatnot. Now back to work on art installation designs…after I get that drink of course.

heck yeah. c'mon over. I could barely manage a leg, thigh, wing, and some breast meat.
I've been smoking a pork chop in the Hofstove smoker (cold smoking) all day. Not sure if I'll leave it till morning, or, try frying it tonight.
nice thing, in that smokey environment, I don't think I have to worry about it going bad if it sits in there overnight.

I'm watching a Deadwood marathon today.........so good.

well, good news calls for peaches. I just finished watching Ken Burn's Baseball for the I don't know how many times. It's just background and memories for other things going on. Feeling good as well, but don't have any real material to show for it. Got some new speakers, and amps, and boxes, and am piddling around with more little music machines.

i saw a special on pbs about calorie restriction and cell regeneration....i may have been inadvertently been keeping myself healthy all these years with my sporadic eating habits after all.

dare I mention the pork chop I cold smoked all day, the super hot fried in coconut oil, with onions, garlic and mushrooms, cabbage and brussel sprouts? the coconut oil cooks so hot, it seals the pork chop, making like a huge pieced of smokey bacon, with a bone in it.

Ok, I've eaten enough smokey meat goodness for a whole week.......dang I wish someone was nearby to help.

How long do you fast for, Simon? I used to do that, long ago............

As of this weekend, my 2 year old niece Max (2 years, 3 months) is making an attempt to say my name . . . which is really, really hard for a small child. But there is a clear attempt! It's so exciting.

It comes out as "Ah-Bah". Like ABBA.

As she was being carried downstairs for a diaper change this weekend--Max so hates diaper changes; boring, and cold, and away from the action--she stretched a beseeching hand over her mother's shoulder, pleading for rescue. "ABBA!"

Her mother laughed. "Savannah won't save you."

But I liked that she thought I might. From any other harrowing experience, doll, I totally would.
