First timer from Lousiana

Post by OnlyShreveportBurner » Sun Apr 07, 2013 1:30 am

Hey guys!

I've been planning on coming to the burn for a couple years now. Everything seems to have worked out for me to be able to go this year, but I just realized how serious the situation with tickets is! I have registered with STEP, as of yesterday. Any advice or tips? Probability of obtaining a ticket as of Early April?

Aside from that I've been attracted to the Burn ever since first learning about it. Ive been to all kinds of different events, but nothing as cool, or as large of a scale as this. Im confident in my self-reliance, as I love to camp and am perfectly capable of surviving a week competely on my own with what I can put in my Kelty pack....and I get to bring a whole car full of stuff!

So yeah, basically just need to know If I should just give up all hope and plan on jumping on a ticket on the very first day next years become available? Or continue to plan, prep and save as though Im headed to BRC in 4 months?

hi there and welcome!

based on what i saw last year and on the testimony of many old timers, august is a big month for people unloading unused tickets. and there are a LOT of unused tickets around that time. the closer to the burn the lower the prices until there were actually offers below cost

if you're serious about going this year then make your preparations, stay in step, also put out feelers to the burn community like posting in the "tickets wanted" section and you will certainly get what you're after

good luck and hope to see you in the dust!!!

Hello and welcome! Clocks is right, there will be tickets in STEP the closer we get to the event. Keep making your plans and we'll see you in the dust!

Awesome guys! Thanks so much for renewing my faith! So I would kind of like to share my plan/camp setup with some veteran burners and get some feedback. Where would the appropriate forum for that be? Of course Ive already read the survival guide and try to read up more on the forums when I can, so Im fairly confident I understand the basics. I cant wait to experience, participate and share in the culture that is Burningman with you all!!!

check this out...http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewforum.php?f=277
There is a LOT of good info in there and also the survival guide is a great thing to memorize.

It all boils down to how much camping experience you have? If you've never camped before, I'd suggest practicing on the weekends. That will tell what works for you and what doesn't. If you have camped before, then this is just another week long camping trip except in a pretty harsh desert environment. Water is a good thing to bring. :D :D :D

Oh yeah, bring some water.

Welcome! There are regional meetups and private parties with burners. Connect. Sometimes people buy 2 tickets when they need 1 and if you know them in person you may be the 1. No guarantees though. Off playa events are not the same, but they are excellent excellent.

Plenty of camping experience, albiet like most folks, not for quite as long or in quite as harsh of an environment. But Im comfortable with the outdoors, and reasonably resourseful. Im also reading/researching like a crazy person, and have been for a while.

Also Id love to attend a regional, I think the closest one to me is Flipside outside of Austin, Texas. But I think Im just going to try to jump in headfirst with a trip to the big one.

Welcome. Keep planning. Although things seem to vary from year to year, tickets always seen to become more plentiful as the burn approaches.

Hi OnlyShreveportBurner! :D

No one can make that promise, but the probability is good, whether in STEP or some other way. Get your time off. Make your lists. Look on FB to see if there are others near you, check the Regionals link on the top right of the main site, and make contacts in your state (and perhaps neighboring ones). It's the people who don't plan who get stuck at home when a ticket pops up.

And tell your friends, family and co-workers you're looking so they think of you first if they hear of something. Buying from STEP or someone you know is always a little safer.

Bringing a whole car full of stuff is glorious! Especially if it's just you. The average person translates to one carful. (Two people can cram their gear into an average sedan, but it's not easy. If it's a van or SUV, however--2 can fit.)

Got my ticket today on stubhub. Hold the scolding please, I was scolded and apologized for it on another thread. I know the errors of my ways and I shall only purchase my ticket through a proper vendor for a proper price.

BUT IM GONNA MAKE IT TO THE PLAYA THIS YEAR!! I cant wait to ring that bell and make me a dirt angel! Also Im looking for anyone close to me looking for a ride share. I have room for one in the cab and a full sized truckbed and we can hook up a trailer for gear if need be. Someone to share driving with and gas cost would be amazing. So yeah guys, cya out there!
