Virgin Burner flying in from TX
Yeah, like really flying in. I have been building an airplane for the past few years and told myself that when it was done I was going to quit my job and just take off and fly away for awhile. Well, it is done and I have given notice.
Some experienced burner friends told me that it I was trying to "reboot" my life that I should head to burning man this summer as part of my travel plans. When I found out there was an airport right there at BRC it was a done deal for me. I've got my ticket and my airplane and I can't wait!
See ya there!

Check the requirments for flying a plane into the BRC airport.
I think there are some restrictions.

Yeah, I've read everything I could find about the BRC airport. I'm good to go. I built this airplane for back country camping and exploring. Places you can only get to by air. My plans are to fly all over the country this summer pitching a tent and camping under my wings.
All goes well I'll be touching down at 88NV on or about 8/26.

Re: Virgin Burner flying in from TX
very cool and congrats!!
Please, be prepared and read all the first timers stuff on the main website.
yer gonna need a fair amount of water and such, not sure about the payload of your plane.
secondly, depending on your experience, I know landing can be a challenge due to high erratic winds, at times. It might be good to see if you can contact any other experienced BRC pilots, for advice regarding time of day and such.

I think it has to be before 10 am. After that the winds won't let you.

Building your own plane and then flying it to Burningman....That's WAY up there on the coolness scale!

Yeah, that's what I figure I'll do. Just send out for pizza and beer, or perhaps some chinese takeout.dragonpilot wrote:Just fly'er in and taxi to a tie down spot and get ready to par-tay!

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hey Niner,
Welcome to eplaya!
If possible, and safe, take pics of the city when you're flying in and leaving. Aerial photos of BRC are always wonderful!

Re: (NOT A) Virgin Burner flying in from TX
Hey Burners,
Just want to say that I made it last year flying the airplane I built in my garage over 15 years. A dream come true and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I was able to get a ticket last week and I plan to fly in again this year. Last year I gifted about 25 rides out over BRC and one to the hot springs at Soldiers Meadows which is about 15-20 minutes north by air. I even flew a couple of film crews that appreciated the fact that my airplane can be flown with the door open as did my passengers. The view . . . incredible. IMHO the only way for a virgin to travel to BRC.
There are pictures and a writeup here:

Just wanted to checkin . . . getting excited. See you on the playa!
