One Item for BMan 2013 a Day
Re: One Item for BM a Day
i had also thought of the community canvas - i actually worried that people might accidently (?) draw on the truck. i know BM is full of really great people, but i also know there are a few who could potentially fuck the whole thing up :/ maybe i do that, but don't leave the sharpies out - only put them out while we're hangin.
420 - love that! you'll have to come by and draw on my truck.
TG - that looks AMAZING! good job!
illy - i am using the truck for shelter as well. i didn't really want to deal with the tarp on the roof, rigging something so there is air flow and all of that. i read a thread about shade over the truck and it just seemed too complicated for my first burn.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Was browsing on ebay last night for a new tent cause I'm sick of not being able to stand up or change in the tent and we needed more space. Found one that was about 2 feet smaller then the one we were looking at. Looked at the info and to my surprise they were located in my town. So I got a 3 room tent for $80 bucks by Swiss gear. Score! Ours is blue and yellow 10x16
Also went to a "garage sale" this morning. Scored a pair of authentic black military boots for....... ONE dollar! Along with a small water cooler for a dollar. Was a pretty good day.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I love scores like that. I got my tent for $5 at a garage sale and have put it through some serious abuse (desert camping, festivals, etc.). It's still good to go and will be housing me at BM. Feel a lot better doing that than going out and buying a $200 tent and worrying all week about whether or not it's going to be ruined. That's why I'd hate to bring a rental car to the Playa.
Please forgive me...this cubicle has stolen portions of my mind and my soul

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Congrats on the tent upgrade, TG.
Asquared, of course there are ppl out there who could fuck things up. There always are - they could be walking around with their own sharpies or spray paint and just tag whatever they want (there were some jerks a couple years back who went around one of the streets one night and stenciled their dumb design all over ppl's camps, art installations, and even rental vehicles with reckless abandon). As long as you make it clear when people are welcome to come participate (versus when you're closed, don't draw on the truck) you should be okay. Maybe as simple as an open/closed sign?
Nothing too tangible, but today I booked some time on both the laser cutter and the shopbot at my local workshop place. I'll use the sessions to make parts for a scale model of the ziggurat with the laser cutter, and then a full sized section with the shopbot for testing purposes. That'll also give me a better estimate of the time it'll take to fabricate all the parts so I can better schedule and plan that chunk of the project.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I've got renders posted in the Work In Progress thread in the Open Discussion board, as well as in the Eridu Society thread in Theme Camps. I'll also post more pictures there as I go.
In other news, I placed my order for the big piece of aluminet for the courtyard in our camp. I know that in theory it's not something we actually need to have until we're getting ready to go, but that stuff can have surprisingly long lead times and at certain times of the year just isn't available.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Really got into the lighting and wiring of my MV. Found more dead EL wire and RBG LED strips then I thought there was. So...If by chance anybody has any spare 12v EL wire transformers, or any kind of blinky lighting for that matter, I'd be more than happy to take it, and put it on the 'BRC Guardian v0.2'.
Besides working on the lighting, I tore apart the rear of the MV where there was dead space and am in process of making a locker, just the right size for a backpack full of day trip essentials.
As well as worked on designing the dust suppression fillers. There's a bunch of space and holes that funnel the dust from the tires straight up into the cab, but not for long.

Bought 200 feet of LED rope light to add to the Land Yacht, and just got a second inverter just as a redundant backup along with the dual alternators, plus spares. And tuned up the little Honda EU1000 as a third redundant backup electrical source. We're in the middle of nowhere with only one shot at it a year, failure is not an option!

Went and bought some of our hoodies today ( we are making a ton of blood bath and beyond hoodies for people here and in camp)
Spray painted PVC poles for the bar area, put up the new tent to make sure all was ok... I feel like I have gone from an itty bitty apartment to a mega house!
Yep that's it for today.

Fuck yeah we do! Making about 30+ hoodies. Alot of people want them apparently. Now if we don't get placement I will be a bit embarrassed. We are going all out this year! Ps we are having a 18x24 "twister" mat and horse shoes along with all the other stuff we are doing. So come by!Captain Goddammit wrote:Wow, you guys have Blood Bath & Beyond apparel? That's big-time!

Damn straight, Captain - failure is not an option!
I know the feeling, TG, every year waiting on placement has me on edge. Some returning camps might be less anxious about it, but the bar does raise every year as camps constantly step up their game, and we generally re-imagine things from the ground up (airship outpost, idea deli, ziggurat, etc).
clocksnmirrors - what Savannah said, registration is not required to have a theme or build any art. For me though, as the camp and art has gotten more involved, setup time is an issue. Registration and placement also means an opportunity to arrive before the gates open and get cracking on building stuff.
I wound up circling back and ordering a second big piece of aluminet yesterday (caution: don't try this at home, that stuff is spendy). That way I'll have solid coverage for the entire courtyard. Work also continues on modeling the camp in C4D. I've got a love/hate relationship with that program - awesomely powerful, but it's a nest of pigs in the way of things getting complicated fast.

I have to extra jib's from my sailboat and took one to our regional in 09 and the other in 2010 and hung them along a tree line and left a table full of acrylic paints and a sign that said "Paint my Sails" and they didtattoogoddess wrote:Art them up at home so you don't leave moop on the playa. Re: One Item for BM a Day
The pendants are slices or sections about 1/8 inch thick from deer antler sheds that are littered on the ground this time of year. I inlaid a small piece of brass into each one with the idea of making the burning man logo or element 11 logo on them. The logo idea was abandoned but the brass inlay remains and looks ok now that it is polished and sealed.

This is what Tom and I have been working on today. Not done yet, needs cleaned up and lettering put in. This is the front left patch. Small.

This is the back logo. Much bigger of course.

Pulled the trigger and ordered the router and a bit set. I have access to a table router at my local workshop space, but for all the pieces I'm going to have to work on (plus other projects we've talked about) we wanted to invest in one of our own.
