Hi! I'm a one-time regional Burner who is sooooo stoked to be going to Burning Man!
I've been on this wonderful spiritual journey the past few months and have become shomer Shabbos along with a little bit more observancy. I'm still a dirty hippie, however, but I would love to connect with some Jewish burners! I'm hoping to camp with Burning Sky (I also skydive) this year, but would love to find some places for Friday night dinner/services as well as Shabbos non-mukza actvities!
Blue skies,
Chani

Re: Jewish theme camps?
There are definitely camps that have shabbos services. A whole gaggle of Jewish people left our camp last year for them. I think you may need to wait for the WWW (what, where, when) guide to come out so you know where to go. You will have no trouble finding a spot to doven. (bring your own talis)

Sukhat shalom (sp?) does a service like that, I believe. Look em up once they get on the WWW.

Thanks for the quick replies! Wow, Shabbos on the playa, I don't know how it can get sweeter than that.

I also recall the Black Rock JCC a few years back. Not sure if they will be there this year, but poke around once the theme camps are listed.

You can look at last year's list now, if you want. Most will have contact information.

Hah! I was thinking of the sukkah mobile that they roll out every year. Or the menorah parade.

Rosh Chodesh would be pretty special, especially with a) the feminine aspect, and b) the night aspect. Since so much happens after dark on the playa (it's almost a different world), a service to greet the new moon would be amazing.

All of those mobiles, so awesome! Haha. Some Jews definitely have an innate burner inside of them!
And yes, Rosh Chodesh would be amazing on the playa.

Re: Jewish theme camps?
Elul Rosh Chodesh is actually on the 5 of August. Next year, Elul Rosh Chodesh is on 25 of August. Perhaps you read the wrong year.

So, I was just looking up the date of my sister's yahrzeit.
The second anniversary of her yahrzeit will be on Wednesday August 28. I'm glad I will be on the playa.

Re: Jewish theme camps?
The camp right next to ours in 2012 was a Jewish dance camp that had a big Shabbat dinner & service, as well as other events during the week. Wish I remembered the name, but if you find a 2012 map, they were at about 7:40 D St.
