How big is the camping spot? Dimensions?
How big of a camping spot does your ticket get you? I'm curious because I'm building my shade structure and don't want to make it too big.
Thanks!

Thanks!

You'll want to read the beginners bible, but you basically find a spot that fits your needs, and there you are. The city is big, time to go homesteading.

Re: How big is the camping spot? Dimensions?
If you're with a specific camp, you should talk to their leadership about how big a shade structure you're making. Otherwise, you will find enough space, provided: 1) You look carefully at the map and avoid reserved Theme Camp space, and 2) Talk to your potential neighbors before setting up.
We talk a lot about this sort of thing. Here's an example.

You can have a thread to yourself in the "Introduce Yourself" forum, by the way.

This is the kind of question that means you need to do a little more research yourself.

If your camp extends beyond that 10x10 area (including guy lines and your bike!) the Rangers will stop by and charge you for one extra ticket for each 10x10 area you encroach.

If your camp is larger than 4.2 meters squared, Badger will come and poop in your evap pond. If you don't have an evap pond, Badger will masturbate in your tent. This is called "burning."

Leaving your tent flap unzipped is also understood to be an indication that you're willing to "receive guests" so make sure to keep it closed when the leather squads march by. Unless you ARE ready.

Re: How big is the camping spot? Dimensions?
In order to avoid the extra ticket charge, and get an additional 10x10 space, all you have to do is tell the person at the toll booth when you first arrive that you need to go to the D Lot, which is where you get registered for additional space. We do it every year, it's pretty easy and doesn't take all that long.
The other thing that can't be emphasized enough though ET MB 90266 (if that really is your name) is to keep your space clean and dust free. You'd be amazed at just how many people leave at the end of the week without sweeping up the dust in their area and hauling it out. Just remember DLUYSB, (Don't Leave Until You See Bedrock). There is more info about all of this in the First Timers Guide and the Survival Guide found on the main Burning Man website.
Keep reading and doing your research, (and ignoring boneheads like me) and it will all start to become more clear in your mind. It's great!
Good Luck

If while sleeping your hand or leg flops across the boundary line of your camp spot, the boogeyman will come by and chop it off.

There camps get specific areas, but in general population, you basically take what you can.
Re: How big is the camping spot? Dimensions?
Everybody knows that if you cover your head with your snuggly blanky the boogeyman will go away.
If you throw your snuggly blanky over the boogeymans head, he no longer knows whether or not he exists, leading to much existential dread.
This is much more effective!

Also, if you're not coming from the US, the 10x10 space is metric... not sure exactly how that's calculated....

*sheepishly wanders back in*
..I remember this one time in History class when we had a substitute teacher..
Actually, to the OP, it is hard to get your mind wrapped around just how big it is out there. It's huge! And while the space in the inner rings fills in fairly quickly, if you get there early in the week (Mon\Tues) you can 'homestead' or 'lay claim' to about as much space as you truly require, especially in the outer rings of the city, where there will be progressively more space still available. Feel free to build whatever shade structure you can dream up and afford to bring, keeping in mind always that at some point during the week you'll most probably be facing very high, possibly sustained winds of 50, or even 60mph. That is the serious side of it.
I had a general idea of where I wanted to camp ahead of time, but the first decision once you are in is, do you take a left and end up on the 9:00 o'clock side of the city, or a right, over toward the 3:00 side. It's all good. Then ease into an empty location, get out and check with the neighbors to make sure it's not reserved, and there you are! Your new home for the week!
(Oh, ..and D Lot isn't where you want to be.. that's where they funnel you off to if you arrive before the gates open.. 'bad burner, bad' )

Re: How big is the camping spot? Dimensions?
Just zoom in on this and think about it a little: http://goo.gl/maps/lf1QB
There is a lot of space, but anything between G and Esplanade is going to be packed pretty tightly. If you block off a 30x30 empty courtyard for no reason on D, people will probably ask why. If you fill it up with vehicles or structures, they won't care.

Well, there is 1.6 Kilometers in a Mile. and when it is -40 F it is -40 C. . .MacGlenver wrote:Also, if you're not coming from the US, the 10x10 space is metric... not sure exactly how that's calculated....
Does that help with your calculations??

Also note that this is a BMOrg-sanctioned law-enforcement measure. Like having your car tires booted for a parking violation, you're responsible for the consequences, i.e. you're required to clean up after any (P)MOOP left in your tent or evap pond.

and be sure to register your spot/campsite when you go through the entrance so they know where to drop off your Porta-Potty. Every registered campsite is issued ONE free Porta-Potty, for the second, if you want two, they charge an extra $75.00

Isn't poolside, near the showers and 200 yards from the main stage limited to 10 by 10?
Everywhere else it's 20 by 20, right?

Re: How big is the camping spot? Dimensions?
yeah, but remember you need the all access laminate to get poolside, and those are applied for before hand on the website that sells the toilet tokens. The campsites that have the rv hookups aren't square, but long and narrow, I forget the precise dimensions.
