Trilo, your project is truly inspirational!
Clocks, found the pics of your trailer after I had asked about seeing it!
I like your trailer mods! Great job!
Thought I'd post another of my in-work projects.
I have to figure out how to hook it to my trike.
I am thinking of using the old sway bar from my camper
since it has a small hitchball on it and the coupler part.
Then Id like to make a removable canopy for it too.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
I refurbished one of those rickshaws for 2010 burn. I suggest before you put too much effort into making it nice take it somewhere and tow it around for an hour and see if it will be too heavy. Yours looks much lighter than mine was but it came down to only getting used to get ice since it was too much work to tow it around.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
Thank you kindly - after talking with a few local artists who've done smaller scale slotted wood furniture projects and being inspired by Gregg and the Otic/Pistil crew's spectacular work, I was moved to go down that road with this. I can't believe how much work has gone into it so far (and there's still so much to do), but I'm really happy with how things are starting to come together.
That's a great cart, maybe it can attach like one of those bike trailers I've seen people use. A canopy would be a nice touch, we did a shade structure/canopy on my gf's trike last year and she really liked it.
I got the lumber I'll need for this week's shopbot sessions sorted, as well as picked up another router bit and sandpaper. I also got a couple coats of sealer on the test parts I painted yesterday, they're starting to look pretty good!

Mr. Patatomoto that is a great pedicab!
Love the frame color and fabric on the seat!
My frame is pretty light, I can pick it up easily.
I hope you dont mind if I use your picture to help
me with mine?
I like how your hitch is connected to the frame.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
no problem, thats why I went back and found it to post, we had a swivel hitch on the neck and at attachment point on the seat post of the bike, so you just had to put a bolt through it. its hard to see, but the swivel im talking about is in this picture and the condition it was in when we got it.

mrpatatomoto i love what you did with your pedicab!
trilo, don't take this the wrong way but your wood looks good enough to eat!
Martiansky, thanks! i can't wait to see what you do with your conveyance!
it was all day with the rain so i didn't get to do much with the trailer.
so.... i got a start on my swamp cooler. i'm thinking this fan is really going to move some air!

Say, do you have any photos of your bike trailer?
My neighbor and I made some up with scavenged bike parts and wheels.
I think I posted a few pics of them in one of these threads around here somewhere.....

Thanks, I appreciate that!
You did a great job refurbishing the rickshaw. Too bad it was too heavy. My frame is made out of 11/4" conduit. Found the seat frame(which used to be 2 chairs) by a dumpster. I'm a little worried about the wheels I have I don't know if they'll hold up. I might have to find some with more spokes.
Is that fabric or vinyl on the seat? I've been tossing up which would be better to use. I think anyone sitting on the seat would stick to vinyl so Im leaning towards fabric, or perhaps fabric over vinyl so the foam wont get soaked if it happened to rain.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
If I remember correctly we left the original vinyl on the seats and covered it in microfiber fabric (baby blanket material). Depending on where you are we were able to go to one of the bike shops and they had old 13 inch bike rims that weren't suitable for riding on but work just fine for a trailer we only needed one so it was easy to find and didn't cause any problems. I wish I could find pictures of the top somewhere that made the rickshaw look 10x better. Conduit is probably a good idea as long as it holds up to someone standing on it, light is definitely the way to go.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
ok so there was a break in the rain and i finally made some good progress on the battery box for my trailer
before

test setup with the batteries

then got into the sexy part. i love all this working with my hands... all the 2x4s and studs and nailing and screwing....

some parts couldn't be clamped so i had to improvise

then started putting it all together

here's where it is now

still need to get the hatch door and front on, cut vents, add the switch box and connecting posts for the inverter, paint job and put the spare tire mount on top

Re: Work in Progress 2013
Nice work, clocksnmirrors!
Today was another long day of machining parts. Wednesday was a particularly long day, and it was a struggle the whole day. Today, fortunately, went much more smoothly. Having already surpassed the expertise of the people at my workshop I did some research online and connected with some pros that helped me figure out a couple issues that were making Wednesday so hard, and based on that I spent the early morning re-working the stuff I planned to cut today. I'm pleased to say that everything worked as expected and then some. The only downside is in re-working the part sheets I mis-counted the connectors I still needed to cut and made a few shy of what I'll need to make both the curio carts. In the grand scheme of things it's not even a blip, I have the parts cut for what I wanted to build asap. Once I got home I got back to sanding and deburring parts (mostly stuff from Wednesday's session). I know I've still got tons to do, but I made a lot of great progress today.

Re: Work in Progress 2013
thanks yggie and trilo!
today started with some painting. i discovered that the front panel was too warped to use

so i had to cut a new one

the new panel was much better but i was slightly off on the width. still totally useable

a quick check showed the battery fit as snug as a bug in a rug!

on went the hatch

and the mounting bolts for the spare tire

perfect fit

another coat of paint and a cover for the tire and i'll be good to go!

Re: Work in Progress 2013
Nice!
I worked on several fronts this weekend. Aside from a camp meeting (and getting campmates engaged and inspired to make their own wonderful contributions, I also made a fair bit of progress in redesigning some bits, as well as fleshing out more of the designs and logistics. I also did some research into lighting gear to use, then put an order in for a single fixture at a supplier I might use. It wasn't a lot of money and even if I don't end up going in that direction I can use the piece I ordered for something I want to do in the loft, so it'll be a good test. I also continued working on deburring and sanding the pieces I cut last week. As I hone the design and improve the machining there'll be almost no hand-sanding to be done but my Wednesday session was rough - and so were some of the pieces I cut. So lots of sanding. Not tough, just tedious. There's still more to do, but I decided to do a rough assembly on one of the carts to show it off to my girlfriend (thankfully, she loves it even more in person than the renders I've shown her).

Here's a shot of the back, showing the storage space

The cat approves as well.

I'd planned to take it right back apart again, but Gandalf the cat insists I leave it up overnight hehe...

thanks maryanimal!! i really do appreciate all the encouragement! sometimes i feel overwhelmed like maybe i'm trying to do too many things
but then trilo comes along with his immaculately polished and perfectly fitted pieces and i know i'm just being a big baby
so today i finally installed the solar panels
roof before installation

holes drilled and bolts installed. aluminum railing ready for alignment

panels successfully installed

getting 17.1 volts and about one amp at 6pm in cloudy conditions. i can't wait to see the wattage in full sun!

Clocks, your trailer is SA-WEET!
Nice job on the solar panels.
I was trying to put a chain on my trike today and DOH the rear derailleur is too short(the cage reach) and the chain doesnt want to clear the frame!
So, no riding around on it today.
I did get the front and rear brakes hooked up though and the short derailleur even worked with the shifter I have.
