Freemasons on the Playa?
I'm expecting the usual snark and conspiracy theories that I usually get, but I'll take a deep breath and post this anyway:
Are there Freemason camps in BRC? Perhaps a lodge?
If BRC can have churches and chapels, it makes sense that there could be a Masonic lodge as well...

IS BURNING MAN A SECRET MASONIC RITUAL?
. . . I don't know of a Freemason camp or temple, but that doesn't mean there isn't one, or that you shouldn't start one. People celebrate everything out there. You can have rituals all day long.
I do see an inactive yahoo group. Maybe you could join it and see if anyone is still listening.

You could also contact Masons in California, Oregon and Nevada and see if any of them Burn.

For the first, ask Goathead and Jella. You might have to settle for birgins on the second.regentswift wrote:Yeah right, where are we supposed to find goats or virgins at BM?Savannah wrote: You can have rituals all day long.![]()

Re: Freemasons on the Playa?
If there were freemasons on the playa, I can't imagine that they'd post about it publicly or respond to such open inquiries. But you never know...

Re: Freemasons on the Playa?
Well, Masonic buildings in every city are labeled and listed in phone books, and a lot of Freemasons you meet are wearing some sort of ring or method of recognition.trilobyte wrote:If there were freemasons on the playa, I can't imagine that they'd post about it publicly or respond to such open inquiries. I figured it was worth a shot.

Re: Freemasons on the Playa?
It's not like Masonry is some big secret ... if you want to become a Mason, all you need to do is ask someone who is one. They need members BADLY!
To have a real lodge, you need to get Grand Lodge approval.
So, a BRC lodge is doubtful.

Re: Freemasons on the Playa?
If a chartered Nevada lodge from the Grand Lodge of Nevada brought their charter to BRC, they could meet. Still, I agree that it's doubtful.48_love wrote:It's not like Masonry is some big secret ... if you want to become a Mason, all you need to do is ask someone who is one. They need members BADLY!

I personally am wondering if there are any camps associated with the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes?
Anyone?

Re: Freemasons on the Playa?
Ok, i was about to post something about that too.
I am a french mason (young master), and burner for the third time this year. The more I go to Bm, the more i'd love to meet a brother there in order to share and have his feeling about all the common points you can find between those two worlds. So if anybody here is a mason, feel free to contact me so that we can meet this year !
Talking about masonry with a non-mason or telling that you are one is not forbidden, but you may know that we're not allowed to say what is in rituals or to explain symbolism…
And for you all to know : we're not conspirating about taking control of the world, or any other stupid things like this ! If this conversation would turn into these kind of conspirationist theory, be sure it'd miss my voice !

I dunno about Fremen, but sometimes you'll see a sandworm peeping out from under a long T-shirt.
