Re: One Item for BM a Day
I love those coconut men, Ratty!
After a couple days' and many stops at different suppliers, I got the paint for the connectors and the polycoat I'll use on all the pieces for the stuff I'm building this year. There will be more paint to get for other decoration, but those were the two biggies. I also picked up some brushes and miscellaneous supplies. Most importantly, I think I've found the wood I want to use on the project. After checking with and talking to people at half a dozen area lumber yards, surprisingly it was one of the big box guys that I'm planning to go with. While the overall chain can be hit and miss, the location in question is big on lumber and has a wider variety of plywood than most, and the manager was both really great to work with and seems as excited about the project as I am. Even though I'll only be buying a few sheets of plywood at a time, he's able to assure me that he'll have my project covered. That's a big load off my mind, I'm very excited about that.

Totally useless little coconut men on a handy clip.

i have to confess i'm a little envious
when wandering the lumber aisle at home depot i always feel lost.... pine vs white wood... #6 vs #8 vs #10 screws... sanded plywood vs the cheap stuff....
how on earth do you know what to get to make your stuff come out right? i guess that's where the half dozen consultations come in

Clocksnmirrors - it's a strange mix of knowledge and experience gained over the years, I guess. I'm far from an expert, but have had enjoyed working with lots of different materials and awesome people on different projects over the years. It's never too late to start learning stuff, either tinkering around on your own ideas or helping out on someone else's stuff. When you end up getting to where you're moving, look for people calling out for volunteers and jump on board something. You may start out doing menial or basic stuff, but soon enough people will show you a few things and get you started on doing all kinds of stuff.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Nice work! I got the locking casters I'll need for the curio carts I'm building, and also picked up a bunch of lumber and then took them to my workshop place to cut them to the size I'll need for the work sessions I have booked later in the week. I also grabbed an extra router bit and a bunch of sanding blocks.

Found another click clak sofa today next to the same dumpster. Same style and color as the other one. Might take them out and really give them a good cleaning Tuesday. Score! Enough seating for about 12 people now or 6 if they are sitting upright in the couch position

Got my Cup Holder, for my Playa Cup yesterday. Has loops welded on the reverse side, so it will attach to my Y-straps...or, I can just carry it like a purse.

Tom!! Is that a plastic cup on a crystal stem. I can't stop smiling. It's a fine cup indeed. Let's have a toast.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Prost! Yes it is a plastic cup on a crystal stem. Though the cup is a little sturdier than your standard SOLO cup. Found it at a BassPro in DesMoines. Was a choice between the Solo Cup and a Mason jar. Solo cups scream sophistication, so was really no choice.

I saw them at Shopko here in Utah, and yes, the Mason jar as well. We chose the acrylic blue Mason jars with a screw-on lid and a straw, because we can clip them to things. Got to love the Shopko clearance sales!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I realized that with as much as I'd be using the shopbot this year, it would be worth getting a spendy specialized router bit for the kind of work I was doing. The general purpose bits I've been using are okay, but the edges can be rough in spots and require a lot of additional work to clean up by hand.

Beef jerky was a huge success!!! Seriously the best beef jerky I've ever had. Clocksnmirrors if you google Alton Brown beef jerky his recipe and video of how to do it comes up. You use 2 ac filters and a box fan to dehydrate it, sooooo good!!!!
