Morning, MDF. Visit here for a few moments and then back to bed. Going to Ashland, OR tomorrow for the weekend to celebrate a Burner friend's 50th Birthday. Haven't been there in years. Likely catch a play or two while there.
Cheers

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
went downtown today to figure out the byzantine permitting process for the city of rochester.
trying to organize a maker's faire/figment like art event.
wow....between the insurance rider, the costs of paying the officials, and the permit it looks like we are going to have to have a whole year of planning instead of 5 months.
we dont qualify as a "block party", which would have been cheap and easy and only 2 month lead time on the permit.
so back to the drawing board....fundraising, movie nights and informational meetings and we do it right next year...
and paperwork....a 16 page pdf application form...and more money to send in the form.
i can only imagine what the BMORG must go through as far as logistics when dealing with so many authorities.
anyway.....SPider Man Filming is blocking up Half of downtown, i wonder what kind of paperwork you have to fill out to do that...they must be spending huge, because every cop and fireman is out there, they've cordoned off a 10 block radius.
coffee cofffee coffffeeeeeee!
have a nice day everyone....nose to the grindstone for a few more days.
kudos to all who have to deal with that schtuff.

Hay Yggy, you going to be in Auburn anytime soon? There's a picture that was sent to me (remember the person in the video I forwarded to you, wink wink) that I cannot send to you for obvious reasons but you'll absolutely want to see.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Permitting processes in a lot of cities can be a real nightmare, and typically getting something permitted the first time is more hellish than subsequent years. I'm not sure if it's just that they're more defensive on things that have no history/track record, or it's some kind of rite of initiation, but it's a ball of suck. And then depending on the shindig, the people sticking their hands out follow. What, extra fees for city cleanup? Wait, we already have security plus off-duty cops…why do we need to hire 6 more people? Traffic control? WTF do we need traffic control for, this isn't a parade and we don't have any motorcades! See if someone within the collective circle of friends organizing this has any history in running stuff through the process before, and beg him/her to give you a hand. Sometimes a person like that can really help cut through the red tape. Good luck with all that.
Man, I'm sore as hell today. I definitely need to get a new cushy sole insert for my Docs - I pulled the old ones out after the last burn. The boots fit and are comfortable enough, but after a long day on my feet on the concrete floor of the workshop, fatigued doesn't begin to describe it. Advil for breakfast! Then it's off to sand and finish the parts I made yesterday.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
yeah, pretty much just what you described trilo.
the add ons.
we are reconsidering whether or not to do it in a "public" space since Private Property is a lot easier to deal with a whole bunch of concerns, but the location we wanted is kinda special and a center of activity for the community.
and yes, i was just on the phone with someone who has done this before concerning events, and old political buddy who is still in the system.
it's gonna take a while, but with more time we can dot our I's and cross the T's...
in the meantime, we are going to do one off impromptu art projects in a vacant lot nearby the location just for the fuck of it....

another meeting...went pretty good...it's nice out here, so nice, everybody is nice...it's a weird psyche thing in the ROC.....first really gorgeous week and everybody is pleasant as fuck...
the gentleman in charge of event schtuff at the location is really pretty cool and super art friendly.
now to talk to the peeps at RIT who have really cool machines and shit.
engineering geeks + designers + art = fun
plus, i have a hard on to play with their 3-d printing shit.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
For what it's worth, my understanding is that the advantage of going the horrifically painful route is that once you do it successfully, putting together subsequent events gets easier. I've only ever helped others with their public event productions so don't have any personal experience tips or tricks to share. Maybe with the season change civic moods will improve and things might get easier.
Safe travels to those heading to Saguaro Man, should be ridiculous fun.
Spent the morning doing virtual shopkeeper stuff, doing some research on drill bits, and deburring some of the parts I made yesterday. Break for lunch with the gf, then back to more of that later...

Yggy, we might still get one more hard freeze, but probably no snow. But you know the Mountain West, it can snow anytime in spring.
Larry is outside re-arranging his firewood collection. We already have yellowjackets. Damn.
Ah, paperwork. I don't even like filling out the theme camp one for our regional. Can't imagine how arranging a full blown event must be. Kudos....
Saf journey to our travelers! Have fun fun fun!

Howdee Bar,
Trying to work - but there is more trying than work going on.
Had my second cup of coffee but it is not working - damn you coffee.
But, it is Friday here (yah).
Tomorrow I work on the paperwork for our art placement - this will involve research on fire, so that makes me happy

Lovely morning, all!
We're getting an In and Out on Riverdale, in front of the defunct Toys R Us which hung on as a Babies R Us for a few years, and is now Zurchers Party Supply. There's a tale in there somewhere. I have always been underwhelmed by INandOut burgers, they're greasy, and not in the yummy way. Meh. I just want a bumpersticker I can hack into In and Out urge.

Hey all
I've been online watching the progress of the SolarImpulse, an electric solar powered one person airplane that took off this morning from Moffett Field, and is headed to Phoenix today on the first leg of a cross country trip. Currently at 6000feet, 27knots, it will take a while.
Safe travels to them, and to all of you traveling today!

well the tooth pain is already starting to subside. no nerves no pain, I guess. and I'm Eating Bacon so all is good. I hope everyone is doing well Safe travels for everyone out and about. Speaking of, I just received word that Marymal is going to be visiting my side of the Mountains in a few weeks. Guess I'll start making plans. my plans for today include shopping(ugg), new I.D. (double ugg). But for now it's more coffee and bacon, then maybe some gardening.

The thing about in'n'out burgers, if I remember correctly, is that the fries are made from real potatoes that very day, not trucked in frozen from Idaho. The meat is fresh ground, too. That being said, there's a super duper burger near work, that has a four ounce patty and newborn fries. I go there once a month.
